Highly recommended reading for anyone in the fashion industry in Australia - an insightful assessment of the current state of the UK fashion industry by our OC&C Strategy Consultants UK colleagues Mairi Fairley and Olivia May - with many parallels with the fashion sector in Australia. Some key findings on the UK market (i) Despite recovering discretionary income and consumer confidence - retail sales continue to lag; (ii) The outlook for volumes is flat - "UK apparel retailers operate in a world where purchase volumes in 2028 will be the same as 2019"; (iii) "Recommerce competes head on with the first-hand market for volume" - with steady rises in the share of UK consumers making second-hand purchases (up from 21% to 31%); (iv) Apparel online migration has plateaued (and is well down on 2020) and (v) "Value for money" and "Easy to shop" have remained the two most important factors for consumers (followed by low prices). For a copy of the report please contact one of our local Australian retail team Jeremy Barker, Julie Preston and Maurice Violani. #fashion #apparel #retail #australia
