Hintlesham Hall: Where beauty meets sustainability. 🌳 HINTLESHAM HALL HOTEL LIMITED isn't just a stunning retreat located in the Suffolk countryside; it's also a leader in sustainable practices. By partnering with the Mangroves for Coastal Resilience Project, an initiative supported by the World Bank, the Norwegian government and the Indonesian government, the hotel actively contributes to restoring and conserving vital mangrove ecosystems. As part of its ongoing commitment to reducing carbon emissions, Hintlesham Hall offers corporate clients the opportunity to offset their carbon footprint by purchasing mangrove trees. Each tree planted absorbs over 308kg of CO2 throughout its lifetime, equating to an impressive 12.3kg per year. 🌿Book your next eco-friendly event here and make a positive impact on the environment! An integral part of our journey as a business in a destination that is just starting to bloom, is to be aware of how we affect the society, economy and environment around us. Integrating this awareness into our business plans should lead to a sustained growth for all the stakeholders. I feel it’s particularly crucial when the governance and enforcement is still fledgling.
Our General Manager, Sriram Kailasam, discussed sustainability efforts and commitments with WOW Weekend - “As one of the larger hospitality organizations and employers within Phu Quoc, we have a responsibility to the ecosystems and communities within which we operate. We continuously strive to prioritize preserving the environment for future generations”.

I'm such a broken record but within NZ conversations around environmental management bring up a painful level of self defeating defensiveness, especially in the water quality space. As a company based in Aotearoa, we love working on global projects but it's personally and professionally upsetting that there's a real blocker to NZ businesses adopting transparent water monitoring and management practices. It's time to acknowledge we haven't done things in the best way, but we are comparatively lucky. If we look at the UK they've gone so far down the track of water quality degradation that there's now legislation and a 10bn GPB market for monitoring and restoration. Ireland is facing agricultural market restrictions and the cost of clean-up, alongside the cost of BAU management/monitoring. I like that these conversations are happening, but I'd love to see more action.
I was sick of international followers and readers telling me how great it must be to live in an 'eco' country who cares about the environment and makes sustainable living so easy for everyone... So I wrote this. "Perhaps my homeland is greenwashing the world... Just like how that toilet cleaner made its way into your shopping trolley because it had green packaging, the world sees the colour green and innocently connects the dots; they think of New Zealand as a sustainable haven." Take a read. I'd love to know your thoughts. P.S. I love Aotearoa New Zealand. I'd just love for us to own up to how far we have to go in the sustainability space.
Ethically Kate: New Zealand isn't as clean and green as the world thinks

Action > Words in Sustainability 🙌🏻 Last night I started at Hotel Verde on a work trip to Cape Town - they have won the title of ‘Africa’s Greenest Hotel’ with a 100% offset carbon neutral stay. In each room is this 👇🏼 practical list of sustainable actions guests can take to avoid waste and lower collective emissions. The bonus is the incentive for taking these actions, which equally feeds into a loyalty programme - clever 👏🏻 It’s great to see simple but effective information and incentives on sustainable behaviours! #Sustainability #CarbonEmissions #ESG #GreenBuilding

Ever wonder why your hotel isn't green yet? The answer is simpler than you think. Let me show you how. Is your hotel still stuck in the 'grey' when it should be boasting of 'green'? Let's talk about why, and more importantly - how we can change it. Hospitality is about making guests feel at home, but it's also about respecting the home we all share – our planet. Yet, many hotel businesses still lag behind in adopting sustainable practices. Why? Often, it's not due to a lack of intention but a lack of understanding or resources. Imagine if every light bulb in your property was an energy-saving LED. Or if you incorporated a rainwater harvesting system. Not only would you reduce your environmental footprint drastically, but you'd also be saving on energy bills. Perhaps you're thinking, 'great, but where do I start?' Enough of the grey, let's bring in the green. I've spent years guiding businesses towards a greener future, and I'd love to guide yours too. Ready to take action? Let's talk sustainability – your guests will thank you for it, and so will your bottom line.
