Amazing customer service isn’t common—but it’s unforgettable. If you know me, you know I love companies that deliver top-tier customer service. I mean, who doesn’t? It’s rare to walk away from a visit and think, “Wow, that was incredible.” But when it happens, it sticks with you. Here’s the story: I was at Advance Auto Parts because I needed a headlight replaced. Legally, they can’t install it for me, but they went above and beyond. They found a mechanic who’s a regular at their store and asked him to help me out. Then, as if that wasn’t enough, the man behind the register said, “This one’s on me.” That’s it. They’ve earned a customer for life. That level of care and going out of their way is now their brand to me. Do these 5 things to ruin your customer relationship, before your Technicians see the car: "Do you have an appointment" "The car hasn't been here before" "Oh, you have a Service Contract 🙄" "What's the appointment name" "It says on rims, did you forget the wheel lock key?" My relationship with Toyota, up until my purchase of a Toyota, was always of respect and admiration for customer service, policy, processes, and quality. As of today, waiting for the second service on my wife's 24' Camry XLE hybrid, I call all of that into question. Please, audit your your service drive processes regularly. Your front-line staff may be killing your RO counts, customer retention, and profitability long before the car ever touches the shop floor, and those "expensive Technicians" EDIT: ...no customer interview ...no walkaround ...no discussion of what's going to happen ...no introduction to a new store ...no attempt to sell a detail ...no MPI And still doesn't know my name. j.
