Cancer incidence is on the rise: By 2030, there will be almost 20 million new cases per year [1]. Photon-counting CT offers a new dimension of accuracy and clarity in #oncology imaging. It has the potential to alter the patient pathway for lesion assessment, thanks to its ability to detect smaller structures with high diagnostic accuracy. As the standard breast cancer screening technology, mammography plays a major role in early detection, improving patient outcomes and survival rates. Nevertheless, there is room for improvement, especially in tumour detection for women with dense breast tissue. In this whitepaper, Erica Kantor discusses the innovation potential across triaging, risk stratification, technology, and monitoring. In #oncology, accurate and precise imaging plays a pivotal role in diagnosis, treatment planning, and monitoring the effectiveness of therapies. But what are the benefits of choosing a photon-counting CT scanner in oncology imaging? ↪ All relevant CT results are provided in a single scan – in Quantum HD image quality and without compromising on spectral information or scan speed. ↪ Oncology patients require frequent imaging for treatment monitoring and follow-ups. They benefit from high-quality images at low dose. ↪ Diagnostic consistency is supported by providing monoenergetic images as the standard image type for every scan. Browse the clinical images to see the capabilities of NAEOTOM Alpha for yourself: https://lnkd.in/eussiPzd You think ahead. We innovate ahead. #strongportfolio #photoncounting #ct

Checkout: Role of CT imaging in addressing resectability issues in differentiated thyroid cancer: Imaging-based Mahajan grading system for TI and ETE Frontiers https://lnkd.in/eRD5Yxv9 Preoperative US should be regarded as a first-line imaging modality for predicting minimal ETE, and CT should be additionally performed for the evaluation of maximal ETE. The specificity and PPV of CT are higher than those of US in detecting overall ETE and TI of PTC. The US- and CT-based grading systems have the potential to optimize preoperative surgical planning.

#Radiomics is an approach to medical imaging aimed at extracting quantitative parameters, like #shape and #texture features, that would otherwise go unnoticed to the human eye. Along with artificial intelligence and machine learning radiomics helps create prediction models that can assist medical practitioners make clinical decisions. It is also a strongly #multidisciplinary discipline, and its success depends a great deal on the cooperation among experts from different fields, including #physicians, #biologists, #mathematicians, #statisticians, #computer #scientists, and #engineers. This special issue welcomes both methodological and application-oriented contributions. We encourage the submission of original research articles, reviews, and comparative evaluations.
