A battery cluster is now taking shape, characterized by something that has served the region well: collaboration. SEEL Swedish Electric Transport Laboratory is one of the most prominent players in the cluster and a large test bed for electromobility. Behind the initiative are Chalmers and RISE, and at our three different locations – in Gothenburg, Nykvarn and Borås – we are building knowledge and collaborating to accelerate the development of electrified transport. "We are open to actors from all over Europe. A special mission is to support small and medium-sized enterprises and stimulate collaboration between industry and academia," says Henrik Svenningstorp, CEO at SEEL. "Vehicles and electrification are two major clusters in Gothenburg, and we are right in the middle of them, close to the customers. We are a neutral party, and it is natural for a start-up company to discuss with a large battery or vehicle manufacturer here," Henrik concludes. If the world’s most renowned engineering school asks you to share your knowledge about Nordic companies’ approach to #Sustainability and #Innovation, then what would you do?! 🙄 After living in Boston with my family for 2½ years, I’ve learned how much we take for granted in Scandinavia. Some of this should be shared with the next generation of innovators, so I accepted the invitation :) The Scandinavian countries have raised the standards of intertwining sustainability and innovation in today's business landscape. This can be attributed to our commitment to environmental and social responsibility, a culture of collaboration, and a long game mindset. In the recent decades, this has enabled Danish companies like #NovoNordisk to interpret and integrate sustainability into their core business models, viewing it as a driver of innovation rather than a separate initiative or conflicting interest. This holistic approach has allowed companies like ours to stay ahead in addressing global challenges while creating value and benefit for the people we serve. The emphasis on long-term thinking, coupled with focused R&D, has enabled us to pioneer sustainable technologies and solutions as an integrated part of businesses. Our collaborative approach is founded on a culture of trust which is essential to #CoCreate innovative breakthroughs to patients in a sustainable way. To me, history has shown and will hopefully continue to prove that the Scandinavian approach serves as a compelling model for businesses worldwide, showcasing how a focus on sustainability and innovation can drive long-term success while positively impacting the planet and society. I'm humbled to represent #Scandinavia, #Denmark, and the #BioInnovationHub, and contribute to this essential dialogue at #MIT! Can a general assembly, an artistic event from an EU project, and a dynamic pitching and networking session all happen in one place? They did indeed, last week in Metz, France. 🇫🇷 What a great honour to have welcomed and hosted partners from all places in Europe for the 35th General Assembly of the group of interest Greenovate! Europe, which was held at the oldest opera house of France: the Opéra-Théâtre Eurométropole-Metz. We began with pitches from startups, SMEs, and technical centers members of Materalia: Pint, HoliMaker, DAIMANTEL FRANCE, 45-8 ENERGY, Nimesis Technology, IRT M2P and Cerfav. We followed with updates of newly funded projets by the European Commission and discussed the Horizon Europe 2025 priority topics and some exciting upcoming collaborations. During our policy session, I had the chance to dive into the Draghi report on European Competitiveness, released last September, and explore its implications for fostering innovation, strengthening industrial performance, and shaping future policies to enhance Europe's global standing in the years to come. 🎯𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗮𝘄𝗮𝘆: the European Economic Area (EEA) indeed continues to demonstrate strong leadership in sustainability-related topics, but must also shift focus towards scaling innovations and aligning policy with industry to ensure long-term competitiveness and sustainable growth within the union. We wrapped up with a creative workshop resulting from the InteractionSeeds 🎨 project, funded by the European Commission. The workshop focused on 💡 how art-inspired approaches can drive innovation and transform industrial technologies, especially in the areas of decarbonisation and the circular economy. 🌱🔄 A big thanks to the project coordinator, Stephanie PETIT from Dowel innovation, for joining us and for her outstanding work in orchestrating such an innovative project, Vera IVANAJ for her engaging artistic contribution, as well as to Kamel Mnisri from ICN Business School and Jean-François CAMUS from EDF for showcasing how their have integrated creativity into their innovation processes to bring science closer to citizens and valorise knowledge. Thanks for coming and making the best out of this time. Greenovate!
