Long before the age of streaming and digital entertainment, the 19th century witnessed an extraordinary innovation in the form of the theatrophone. Every heard of it? Introduced in Paris in 1881 by Clément Ader, the theatrophone allowed subscribers to listen to live performances from theaters and opera houses via telephone lines, making it a precursor to modern broadcasting. By using a network of telephone lines and specially designed microphones placed on stage, this technology brought the magic of live theater and opera directly into listeners' homes or dedicated listening stations, expanding access to high culture. The theatrophone not only made live performances more accessible but also paved the way for future innovations in broadcasting, including radio and television. The presentation was called "Fighting for Mindshare" and it: 1. Argued that labels would begin to rethink their strategy once streaming growth plateaued. 2. Looked at other industries that had reached 0 sum games continued to market. 3. Talked about how you update your marketing strategy in a streaming world. 4. Shared the evolution of smartURL and the new feature sets we were rolling out. Give it some grace, it was 7.5 years early but a 100% right.
