For those wondering the difference between the #Olympics, #Paralympics and #SpecialOlympics, here is a simple and clear explanation. You are welcome!
Everyone talking about the Paralympics or shared the success stories or posts over the social media, but still there are people didn’t know the difference between PO and SO:🧐 Misconceptions around the Olympics, the Paralympics and Special Olympics have existed..😅 Quick facts about the differences between the Paralympics & Special Olympics:😉 Paralympics: • The Paralympics refers to the Paralympic Games, a multi-sport event that happens every 4-years (in both Summer and Winter cycles) • The Paralympics are held in parallel with the Olympic Games (hence “para”) (usually about two weeks after). • The Paralympics have specific rules around eligibility and classification for athletes based on 10 eligible impairments types. • Athletes with disabilities who participate in para sports are Para athletes, but you are not a Paralympian until you compete at the Paralympic Games (similarly not every athlete is considered an Olympian). Special Olympics: * It refers to an organisation and sport system, not a single event. * Participating athletes have an intellectual disability. * It happens also every 4 years in both summer and winter cycles. * In this , it uses divisoning and groups athletes based on age, gender and ability and do not exclude based on performance. Hope it helps and save it for later! #sports #olympics #games #paris2024

Last week during 13th Fazza Dubai 2024 Para Powerlifting World Cup was the first time I am handling NPA during competition. New experience and new exposure for me. As Technical Officials on duty, we just need to be aware on the NPA and adjusting the existing procedures to fit the guidelines especially for Technical Controller, Kit Check Official and Technical Announcer. Games is about the athlete. One thing that I love about hetting involve with this sport event, everytime is different; different challenges, different experience and different exposure. Will never be enough. Experience will make you better and better but never perfect. Remark: NPA stand for Neutral Paralympic Athletes. NPA will compete as individuals in neutral uniforms under an NPA flag, and will not feature on the medals table or march in the Opening and Closing Ceremonies. Strict eligibility conditions mean NPA will be independently vetted to ensure they have not supported the Ukraine war and are not contracted to the military.

The Paralympic Games or Paralympics, also known as the Games of the Paralympiad, is a periodic series of international multisport events involving athletes with a range of disabilities. There are Winter and Summer Paralympic Games, which since the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, South Korea, have been held shortly after the corresponding Olympic Games. All Paralympic Games are governed by the International Paralympic Committee (IPC).The Paralympics began as a small gathering of British World War II veterans in 1948. The 1960 Games in Rome drew 400 athletes with disabilities from 23 countries, as proposed by doctor Antonio Maglio. Currently it is one of the largest international sporting events: the 2020 Summer Paralympics featuring 4,520 athletes from 163 National Paralympic Committees. Paralympians strive for equal treatment with non-disabled Olympic athletes, but there is a large funding gap between Olympic and Paralympic athletes. The Paralympic Games are organized in parallel with and in a similar way to the Olympic Games.#snsinstitutions #snsdesignthinking #designthinkers
