Friends...here we are. Friday again. We made it. 11 down and many to go with the sun high in the sky and the world getting warmer again. Speaking of which... I've been doing a bit of reading. With the success of our Grøn Gas Lolland- Falster 'decarbonisation' project almost behind us (first gas on-track for late summer), myself and our little team will be in transition to new projects of some kind, with a bit of luck something to do with this one - 'The Hydrogen Backbone'. https://lnkd.in/dj5cBzx4 It's exciting not only because hydrogen is emerging as an agent of change at scale, but also because Denmark continues to establish itself as a world leader in deployment of transition technologies. It's quite the opportunity, but it takes a lot to make it happen. For a good background read on some challenges to uptake and progress in the Green Hydrogen Sector, I would recommend this IRENA paper from 2020. It's a benchmark study, and gives a good perspective on the necessary synergies between technology development and political sanction. https://lnkd.in/djHyGsa9 Fast forward to this week, with a commentary from a well respected market commentator on the need for projects to reach FID, and it's easy to imagine there is a bit of pressure on the system to deliver on the trajectory to summit milestones in 2030, 2040 and 2050. https://lnkd.in/duGAxv5C Wonderful stuff. However we become engaged, it's good to feel part of something progressive and of impact. And if nothing else, makes for a good read on a Friday. Have a good weekend.

Hydrogen's role as a key economic driver is becoming increasingly important in Europe. Despite the high demand expected in Central and Northern Europe, these regions face the challenge of insufficient renewable energy resources for hydrogen production. This scenario paves the way for significant hydrogen imports into the EU, supported by dedicated pipelines and maritime routes to enhance distribution throughout the Union. Italy, Spain, and Portugal are uniquely positioned to play pivotal roles in the European hydrogen economy, given their existing projects and targets aimed at enhancing production capabilities and leveraging their strategic locations. These developments mark a committed stride towards a sustainable and resilient energy future in Europe. Last year, Secretary Granholm and Minister Silveira committed to deepen the U.S.-Brazil bilateral partnership between our governments and the private sector. This week, we fulfilled one of their commitments by launching the bilateral ⚡ Clean Hydrogen Clean Energy Industry Dialogue ⚡. Attended by over 100 representatives from industry, civil society and government, we shared our strategies for making the United States and Brazil major global clean hydrogen producers. Clean hydrogen is a sustainable fuel that will play a critical role in decarbonizing the hardest-to-abate sectors like industry and transportation, producing lower carbon fertilizers to feed families, and so much more. Our conversation with industry helped both governments understand what else it'll take to make clean hydrogen affordable and accessible to all, and in what ways we can catalyze more public-private partnerships between these two energy power houses. My thanks to co-chair Thiago Barral for leading this effort with me, to the Brazil-U.S. Business Council at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and Amcham-Brasil for hosting us, and Elena Berger and Mariana Espécie fore creating this opportunity for us and our partners. Thanks also to our fearless hydrogen leaders at U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) who shared their expertise and lessons learned in creating our national hydrogen strategy and incenting investment in hydrogen hubs across the United States - Sunita Satyapal and Crystal Farmer. 📚 Resources Read last year's joint statement to see what else we'll be doing together: https://shorturl.at/fgjzT Learn more about how DOE is growing the clean hydrogen industry from RD&D through commercial lift off: https://lnkd.in/ekPYAsNv 👀 Come back to see the slide decks next week!
