Happy World EV Day!🚗⚡ On World EV Day, Governor JB Pritzker and the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) announced $25.3 million in grants to build EV charging stations along interstate corridors. This marks the first round of funding from the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Program, advancing the state’s goal to put 1 million EVs on the road by 2030. The NEVI program, funded through the Infrastructure Investment & Jobs Act, aims to provide charging stations every 50 miles along Illinois interstates, accelerating EV adoption and boosting the state's leadership in EV manufacturing. The full list of recipients can be found at Drive Electric Illinois. All awards are contingent on grant agreements with IDOT. The next round of funding is expected in late 2024. The public and private sector are making transformative investments in commercial vehicle charging infrastructure throughout the U.S. An estimated $30 billion is going toward supporting truck and bus charging projects across federal, state, and local governments, in addition to investor-owned utilities and the private sector. Public funding amounting to approximately $21 billion accounts for the greatest portion of the $30 billion of planned MDHD investment. This $21 billion is driven largely by the 2022 Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), which provides renewed funding for key programs such as the Low- or No-Emission Grant Program, the Clean School Bus Program, the Diesel Emissions Reduction Act, and several others. This unprecedented level of funding is critical to accelerating progress towards widescale electrification of commercial vehicles and making the ZEV adoption projections from the EPA’s Phase 3 achievable.

The bottom line is that for fleets charging standards are confusing and often distract them from asking for what they need at a deeper level. Just saying "must be OCCP compliant" is proving a road to ruin in many cases - and avoiding the hard questions about what you will need today and into the future. Policy maker are also falling into this trap and again - really need to ask the hard questions about what they need - for example charging stations that can be easily taken over by a new manager, or that can adequately describe issues..... We have this high-level document - but also something more detailed for our fleet customer and parter if you ask nicely.
