At a congressional hearing, U.S. Postmaster General Louis DeJoy confirmed plans to buy electric vehicles to replace the aging fleet, noting it makes good business sense for the USPS.

...the rule will require auto manufacturers to adhere to an industry-wide fleet average of approximately 50.4 miles per gallon for passenger cars and light trucks by 2031 – a move that, critics say, would force car companies to drastically increase the share of their fleets that are electric vehicles (EVs), and, in turn, would negatively impact consumer pocketbooks and American energy independence...

China's primary 'policy' around EVs is not about incentives and support for electrification. The overwhelming reason is Energy Security. China is importing about 70% of their petroleum needs. They are overly dependent on oil imports. But China does have Hydroelectric capacity, Natural Gas and Coal; all of which can generate electrical energy, which can power EVs.

"It's less about the last quarter or the last year and more about the decades-long trends." I had a great chat last week with Shailen Bhatt, who heads up the Federal Highway Administration. Here's why he believes a global shift toward EVs is underway, and that the U.S. and the automakers who operate here can't afford to be left out—regardless of the rhetoric you hear elsewhere. "I think the part that we're missing a little bit in all of these kinds of squabbles is that America was really successful as a nation, in no small part because of our success in the automotive industry, in the 20th century," he said. "If we want to be successful in the 21st century, we have to build the cars that are being bought out there." https://lnkd.in/eE3ufk2d

California Could be the First State to Require Speed Warning Tech in 2030 Model Year https://lnkd.in/g_5YHV_k auto connected car newsThe Legislature passed Senator Scott Wiener’s (D-San Francisco) Senate Bill 961. The bill will help reduce traffic deaths by requiring speed warning technology — called intelligent speed assistance — in all new cars manufactured or sold in California beginning with 2030 model year vehicles. California will be the first state in the nation to enact this safety requirement. SB 961 builds on similar requirements that went into effect in the European Union beginning in July, and it implements the National Transportation Safety Board’s (NTSB) recommendation to require speed limiters in all new vehicles. Range anxiety is a made up construct with no basis in facts. Fact: 95% of driving IS where people live, work, and play. And for the 5% that isn’t, buy a Tesla and there’s lotsa places to charge. Don’t like Tesla, buy an EV that can use the Tesla charging network. No range anxiety! #tesla #climafi #rangeanxiety #ev #EV charging #supercharger #elonmusk
Ok, where's the range anxiety coming from? Only 0.6% of trips are > 150 miles. Only 0.6% of my trips are to Home Depot and require a pickup truck. Do I need to buy a spare gas-powered Ford F150 for the fringe cases? Source: U.S. Department of Transportation, Federal Highway Administration, NextGen Origin-Destination Data Products. #rangeanxiety

Speed limiters that cap a large truck’s maximum speed are a proven safety technology. Almost all trucking fleets utilize them. But other segments condemn them. Legislation in Congress (The DRIVE Act) would, if passed, continue to endanger other motorists, by allowing 80,000-pound tractor-trailers to operate at 75 or 80 mph, or even higher. The U.S. Department of Transportation should be allowed to complete this rule! Read it here: https://bit.ly/3Z43CUP

Great insights Scott Bradley. Level 2 charging at Home, Work, or wherever your EV sits for any period of a few hours or more is exactly all that is needed. Intelligent software controlling L2 chargers. DCFast for the extreme fringe cases like road trippers and rideshare drivers. All it takes is getting used to charging your EV as you do your phone. Good morning 100%!!!
