Financial planning is a great, rewarding career but it can be very tough to break into the profession. There are signs suggesting wealth management is progressing toward solutions. Still, the sobering raw numbers show how far the industry has to go. It’s not every day you see a world leader mix up 𝗕𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗥𝗼𝗰𝗸 and 𝗕𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗸𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗻𝗲, but that’s exactly what happened this week!🌍 UK prime minister Sir Keir Starmer posted a photo of LARRY FINK, CEO of BlackRock, when thanking Blackstone for their multibillion-pound investment in a new AI data centre. The post was quickly corrected, but it's not a great look! 👀 I’ve seen new grads and interns confusing the two. But it’s a different story when you’re making IMPORTANT announcements on the global stage. Attention to detail matters. 🔍 So, just to clear things up: 𝗕𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗥𝗼𝗰𝗸: 🌐 A global asset management leader, overseeing trillions in investments. 𝗕𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗸𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗻𝗲: 🏗️ A private equity giant who have recently announced a £10B investment to create one of the largest AI data centres in Europe, based in Northumberland. They may share a “Black” in their names, but they operate in very different worlds. 🌏 Whether you're a fresh hire like an intern or grad, or a prime minister, getting the details right is key! ✅ #FinanceInsights #BlackRock #Blackstone #AttentionToDetail

The latest chapter in my finance journey has been an incredible experience, culminating in the completion of the Summer Analyst program with AmplifyME, where I earned a Level 6 Diploma in Applied Finance with Distinction! 🏆 The program allowed me to dive deep into three fascinating areas: 🔹 Asset Management & Hedge Fund Trading: I had the exciting challenge of managing a $20M Global Macro portfolio. It was a real test of my ability to use technical analysis tools and implement long/short strategies to not only maximize returns but also hedge against risks. 🔹 Investment Banking & Corporate Finance: I got hands-on with real M&A valuations, crafting pitch decks, and seeing the IPO process from the inside—from planning the roadshow to the intricacies of book building. The experience of producing Equity Research reports and building Private Equity leveraged buyout models also expanded my understanding of the industry and provided me with invaluable insights. 🔹 Sales & Trading and Market Making: I improved my skills in understanding trade flows and optimizing bid/offer pricing. One of the most thrilling parts was trading commodity derivatives, where I used strategies like straddles and strangles to navigate market volatility effectively. 💡 Some Personal Takeaways: The Joy of Learning: The more I explore the world of finance, the more I realize how vast it is. Every day brought something new, and it reminded me to stay curious, be humble, and always be ready to absorb knowledge like a sponge. Handling Chaos: The program wasn’t without its challenges, especially when market chaos hit. But I learned the importance of cutting through the noise, staying focused on what truly matters, and only adjusting when it’s absolutely necessary—being mindful to avoid commitment bias. Embracing Imperfection: I started with the mindset of doing everything perfectly, but I quickly learned that perfection isn’t the goal—growth is. Making mistakes and learning from them turned out to be one of the most valuable parts of the journey. 🙏 I’m truly grateful to my amazing professors—Silvia Magni, Stephen Barnett, Emre Ekim, Joseph Winstanley, Will de Lucy, Piers Curran—and our careers mentor, Anthony Cheung. Each of you played a significant role in shaping my experience and helping me grow. Your guidance, support, and wisdom made all the difference, and I feel incredibly fortunate to have learned from you. Thank you for believing in me and for being there every step of the way.

An Unforgettable Day in the Finance Capital of the World – New York City! Networking is not just a buzzword; it’s a game-changer. As an aspiring finance professional, I firmly believe that growth happens when you step out of the classroom and into real-world conversations. This past Friday, I had the incredible opportunity to immerse myself in the vibrant energy of New York City—the global epicenter of finance—and it exceeded every expectation I had for my first visit. The day was packed with invaluable learning experiences as I engaged with industry leaders and professionals from some of the most prestigious organizations, including JPMorganChase, Morgan Stanley, Artemis Real Estate Partners, Bloomberg, and Goldman Sachs. Each interaction was a treasure trove of insights, providing a deeper understanding of the finance landscape, from cutting-edge innovations to enduring challenges. What stood out to me most was the openness of these professionals to share their journeys, the lessons they’ve learned, and advice on navigating the complexities of the finance sector. Their stories emphasized resilience, adaptability, and the importance of lifelong learning—qualities I aspire to embody as I continue my journey. This experience was made possible by the unwavering support and opportunities provided by the American University - Kogod School of Business. I am constantly inspired by the commitment of our program to foster holistic development, build meaningful industry connections, and prepare us for impactful careers. I am very thankful to my wonderful coach Caroline F., Professor Octavian Ionici, Professor Robert Hauswald, Ray Ruiz and Cynthia Velazquez O'Brien for facilitating this! A key takeaway from the trip: Networking is about more than collecting contacts—it’s about building relationships, asking thoughtful questions, and gaining perspectives that challenge your current understanding. You learn, you unlearn, and most importantly, you grow. To my fellow students and young professionals: seize every opportunity to step out of your comfort zone, be curious, and immerse yourself in spaces where you can learn from the best. You never know how one conversation can shape your outlook and aspirations. Here’s to more opportunities, more learning, and more growth in this exciting journey! #Finance #Networking #ProfessionalGrowth #KogodMBA #FinanceCapital #Gratitude #NewYorkCity #CareerDevelopment
