Struggling with articulation disorders can be challenging, but there's hope! 🌈 With the support of pediatric speech therapy, children can overcome these hurdles and unlock the gift of clear communication. Here's how: 1️⃣ Targeted Intervention: Speech therapists use specialized techniques and exercises to address specific speech sound errors, helping children produce sounds correctly and improve overall clarity. 2️⃣ Individualized Treatment: Each child's therapy plan is tailored to their unique needs and strengths, ensuring personalized support and maximum progress in their articulation skills. 3️⃣ Phonological Awareness: Therapy sessions enhance phonological awareness, helping children recognize and differentiate between speech sounds, which is crucial for accurate articulation. 4️⃣ Confidence Building: As children make progress in therapy, their confidence grows, empowering them to communicate more effectively and participate more confidently in social interactions. 5️⃣ Lifelong Benefits: Mastering articulation skills not only improves speech clarity in childhood but also lays the foundation for successful communication throughout life, enhancing academic, social, and professional opportunities. At Synaptic Pediatric Therapies, we're dedicated to helping children overcome articulation disorders and thrive in their communication journey. 🌟💬 . . . #articulation #speechtherapy #slp #speechpathology #speechlanguagepathologist

Are you looking for a straightforward, effective tool to assess vestibular function in your patients? The Gans Sensory Organization Performance (SOP) Test, developed by American Institute of Balance, is a reliable solution! As hearing care professionals, we often focus on the auditory side of the inner ear, while the balance component can sometimes be overlooked. This test offers an efficient, office-based way to evaluate how patients use their sensory inputs—vision, somatosensory, and vestibular—to maintain stability. At our clinic, we use the Gans SOP Test as a screening tool after hearing assessments for patients who report imbalance or vertigo, as well as to monitor progress in vestibular rehabilitation therapy. By revealing patterns of sensory compensation, it’s invaluable for diagnosing vestibular disorders, planning treatment, and tracking rehabilitation outcomes. Easy to administer and requiring minimal equipment, it’s the perfect fit for busy clinical settings. What tools do you currently use to assess patients with potential vestibular disorders? Let’s bring balance into focus alongside hearing! #Audiology #VestibularAssessment #BalanceTesting #GansSOP

An athetoid cerebral palsy (CP) child utilizing a standing table demonstrates a determined effort to engage with their surroundings and enhance their physical capabilities. Despite the challenges posed by athetoid CP, characterized by involuntary and uncontrollable movements, the child exhibits resilience and determination in their therapy sessions. In the standing table, the child stands upright with the support of the equipment, promoting weight-bearing through their lower extremities and encouraging postural alignment. This helps in preventing contractures, improving muscle tone, and enhancing overall mobility. The standing position also allows the child to interact with their environment from a different perspective, promoting sensory exploration and cognitive development. While the athetoid movements may persist during standing, the therapy sessions aim to gradually improve motor control and coordination. Therapists closely monitor the child's progress, adjusting the duration and intensity of standing sessions as needed to ensure safety and effectiveness. Through consistent use of the standing table, the athetoid CP child can experience improved physical function, increased independence, and a greater sense of confidence in their abilities to navigate the world around them. This therapeutic intervention plays a vital role in promoting overall well-being and quality of life for children with athetoid cerebral palsy. #cp #athetoide #sensory_integration #cerebral_palsy #therapy #physio

Coming to San Diego, CA and Dallas, TX fall of 2024 and Atlanta, GA spring of 2025 There’s something missing in our Sensory Integration approaches. For decades, we have used the brilliant guides originating with A. Jean Ayres, PhD, OTR, FAOTA to understand why children (and adults) may struggle with sensory comfort and function. Daily, we've addressed the question, "Is it Sensory, or is it Behavior?" We perform this analysis through interviews and observations….across the room. Rarely do our evaluations/treatments involve touch palpation to assess the tone-state of the different nervous systems. There's so much more a body (struggling with sensory optimization) wants us to know. Osteopathic principles of health and function are missing from a truly holistic approach to sensory wellness. Craniosacral therapy, visceral manipulation, lymphatic drainage massage, lympho-fascia mobilization, and other soft tissue approaches were offered to the allied health professions (of allopathic medicine). These manual therapies and others, embraced by pediatric practitioners worldwide for over 40 years, form a global community. By integrating these methods with the unique perspective of an occupational therapist, we can broaden our understanding of sensory functions and offer innovative treatments. Wisconsin's Special Therapies Institute provides several books to pique your interest in the volume of practice-based evidence. We're now able to link consistent behavioral issues to specific structural maladies, such as a compressed occiput affecting the vagal nerve, a restricted peritoneum impacting the enteric nervous system, or damaged C fibers in the skin leading to a dominant sympathetic state. These gentle, noninvasive therapies have been shown to facilitate self-correcting changes, a fundamental principle of osteopathic medicine. "Every treatment protocol should be dictated by the wisdom of the patient’s own body." —Dr. John E. Upledger Check out our books here: https://lnkd.in/eSDAFxfd Check out upcoming 2- and 3-Day Seminars here: https://lnkd.in/gBWxhKek If you are interested in a workshop to be held in your locale, please contact us for planning here: https://lnkd.in/gm9muxWi Looking forward to working with your interest in this topic

The Critical Role of Oral Sensory Processing in Speech and Feeding Therapy: As Speech-Language Pathologists and Feeding Therapists, we often encounter clients who struggle with communication and feeding due to underlying oral sensory issues. These challenges can manifest as hypersensitivity, hyposensitivity, or difficulty in coordinating oral movements. If left unaddressed, they can significantly hinder progress in therapy, affecting everything from speech clarity to safe and effective feeding. By focusing on oral sensory processing, we lay the groundwork for successful interventions. Sensory-based strategies can help desensitize or stimulate the oral structures, allowing clients to better tolerate different textures, temperatures, and sensations in their mouth. This, in turn, promotes clearer speech production and safer, more enjoyable feeding experiences. Addressing these sensory challenges is not merely an aspect of therapy—it's a cornerstone that can lead to lasting, meaningful progress. Let's continue to prioritize comprehensive assessments and individualized treatment plans that consider the full scope of our clients' sensory needs. #SpeechTherapy #FeedingTherapy #OralSensoryProcessing #SLP #TherapyTuesday #ChildDevelopment #FeedingDisorders

I'm excited to share our latest publication in the Journal of Orthopaedic & Sports Physical Therapy (JOSPT Open) on the impact of pre-academy injuries on police force recruits. Our study reveals that persistent injury-related disability is a significant barrier to full occupational performance. We emphasise the need for targeted interventions to minimise disability and improve training outcomes. 🔑 Key Findings: • Nearly half of recruits reported injuries in the 12 months prior to training. • There was up to 40% pre-existing persistent disability reported amongst police force recruits, prior to entering the academy. • Persistent disability significantly impairs police-specific occupational performance. Read the full study to learn more about our recommendations for enhancing police recruit training: https://lnkd.in/gt7kqKZs #Research #PoliceTraining #InjuryPrevention #PhysicalPerformance #OccupationalHealth
