It must be an ongoing function within your organization, keeping systems up to date and aligned with business needs. 2. Prioritise by Value: Focus modernisation efforts on areas that will drive the most business value, ensuring progress that benefits the organisation. 3. Leverage Agile Principles: Break down modernisation projects into smaller, manageable tasks to deliver quick wins and ROI faster. 4. Embrace Generative AI: Use AI to streamline the process by transforming outdated code, reducing modernisation costs, and accelerating progress. 123.EXPERT’s TAKE: Agile has its place, with projects suited to Agile. Embed technology into business-as-usual or craft a separate technology strategy? Here are my top five insights: The role of technology has changed radically over the last few years. CIOs now report directly to the Chief Executive, most large organisations have separate technology boards, annual reports detail technology investments, digital promoter scores are tracked, and websites like Down Detector monitor production uptime of all major organisations in near real-time. But here’s the kicker: Despite all these advancements, the role and definition of an organisation’s technology strategies are becoming more and more irrelevant. Our recent engagements with organisations indicate that separate business and technology strategies are actually driving a widening divide. So, what then is the answer? There are five key considerations that organisations should follow to ensure technology is entrenched in their business strategies: 1. Clear definition of the capabilities required “to win”: The overall organisational strategy should clearly define the capabilities required to be successful. The technology implications of this should be clearly defined, with investment funding being prioritised accordingly. 2. Galvanise the team (and associated operating models): Modern Agile delivery mechanisms require integrated teams, with representation from all key areas within an organisation. Our experience shows that those organisations that operate in an integrated manner deliver more value. 3. Be clear of the guiding principles: It is vitally important that a clear set of technology principles should exist. This should consider architectural principles, design principles, prioritisation frameworks, and “non-negotiables” (e.g., security). 4. Deliver value frequently: Customer demands change on an ongoing basis. Those organisations that respond to these demands are more likely to attract and retain their customers. Technology delivery should support this with regular and frequent delivery of value. 5. Track progress: Finally, progress should be measured against the achievement of the respective business outcomes, with opportunities existing to course correct. Mechanisms should exist to identify shifting market expectations, to identify failure early, and allow for escalations as needed. So, despite the increasing importance of technology in organisational structures, the disconnect between business and technology strategies is growing. To bridge this gap, organisations must integrate technology deeply into their business strategies, ensuring that technology investments and initiatives are directly aligned with business goals. Only then can they truly harness the power of technology to drive success. #technology #strategy

Interesting thoughts on ensuring systematic connection between technology and business strategy, in the context of a growing gap in alignment. This is particularly relevant as we are seeing lots of companies deploy technology to assist with the challenge of providing higher quality, business useful and wide ranging ESG data to internal and external stakeholders, but don't often consider the full potential strategic impact/ links and business needs. #esgdata #sustainability

As businesses rush towards digital transformation, back-of-house operations often get overlooked, yet this is precisely where technology can drive efficiency and growth. In any successful business today delivering the right balance of IT services is far less about IT infrastructure and more about Information Management, business process optimisation, security and risk management, great customer experience and of course underpinning it all would be quality strategic planning and innovation capabilities. Clearly not in that order. A zero-based Trust by design puts Security and Risk at the very front of each strategic idea. Being led by the data means ensuring quality inputs are understood to facilitate quality data outputs so that timely decisions can be confidently made. Today’s IT is so much more than just IT infrastructure and even Cloud services. IT should be seen as the single biggest enabler for a stable BAU environment as well as supporting the strategic ambitions of the Board. A successful, growing business will need to innovate and will need to mandate an operational excellence model. The challenge is how to find that right balance between business innovation and operational excellence. Any good IT leader will tell you that it’s a continual process of finetuning the balance between advancing business strategy so that we can bolster innovation. Innovation of course is also one of the key drivers for continually improving the customer experience. Organisationally, without the customer, we have little or no purpose. Having managed IT for over 30 years at a senior level, I have personally witnessed the continual evolution of IT and I have remained agile to that evolutionary path. Any great IT leader must be able to assess the current situation, engage, influence and listen. Importance must be given to creating and communicating the right strategy for the business, developing the operation plans for any infrastructure upgrades, maintaining the right balance where digital business and digital transformation initiatives can co-exist all while ensuring the plans deliver on reducing any corporate risks. It is ironic that although infrastructure investment is one of the major expenses for IT, it is lower down on the list of IT priorities. Security and Risk has to be first, leveraging BPA, AI needs to be considered next as it will clearly impact the strategic decisions, having good data to analyse and work with must be next then finally assessment of applications and infrastructure last. The IT leader needs to be so much more now than they were. Having the right IT leader will ensure the business can continue to remain agile and evolve while continuing to create value for the organisation by demonstrably supporting the organisations strategic vision and mission.

New technology can aid #digitaltransformation—or add complexity to broken processes. Real #success comes from understanding and optimizing the processes that drive daily operations. Organizations taking this practical approach spot inefficiencies faster, implement changes more effectively, and see better ROI. Strong #processdesign creates lasting operational improvements by eliminating redundant work, reducing errors, and ensuring new systems truly solve existing problems. https://loom.ly/_WBi6wo
