Last week, professionals from survivor-serving organizations came together to attend the 2024 Cuyahoga County SART Conference. Thank you to CWRU for hosting the conference in the beautiful Linsalata Alumni Center. And thank you to the speakers and attendees who spent the day having meaningful and impactful conversations on how we can all better support survivors in historically marginalized communities. Our brains love shortcuts. But as our ancestors on the savannah discovered, not every scary-looking silhouette in the distance is a foe. Sometimes, it's just Dave from two caves over. This week’s essay (issue no. 19) covers the guilt by association fallacy. What is it and how do we avoid it? #CriticalThinking #AssociationFallacy #HumanBehavior #Philosophy #NewsletterHighlight https://lnkd.in/grMmZ9Kp

This video illustrates some of the daily challenges blind/vision impaired people encounter. This campaign can enable all in society to make small changes that increases #Accessibility & #Inclusiveness for all that can create an environment where we can all feel a sense of #Belonging. #InclusionIsEveryonesBusiness #UniversalDesign #UDL
Our world isn't designed with sight loss in mind, which is why 9 in 10 blind or partially sighted people need some assistance to make an unfamiliar journey. Even though many people want to help someone with sight loss, they often don't know where to start. RNIB's latest campaign aims to change that, and educate the nation on how best to help with their Be Helpful guide, download here: https://lnkd.in/eYhvUiXW All aspects of the campaign are co-created with people from the blind and partially sighted community, with a playful, approachable tone to bring their personalities to life. ➡️ Read more about our work here: https://lnkd.in/eG9YAapg

I'm constantly trying to build my facilitating, training and coaching skills to support the people I work with. The ToP Network offers so many opportunities to grow. Today we participated in a book charting process to do a deep study of the book "The Inner Work of Racial Justice." I appreciate all our facilitators for providing the opportunity to grow in our understanding of practices that help us participate in racial justice. #bookcharting #facilitating #abide

Co-facilitated an online participatory book study of “The Inner Work of Racial Justice” this morning with Marcia Hodges and Dennis F. Jennings as the final event of the 2024 ToP Network Annual Gathering. It was such a fulfilling experience. My heart is full!

🔍 This week’s gathering spotlight: One of my favorite gatherings of 2023 was leveraging Priya Parker's 15 toasts concept by teaming up with two of my favorite local nonprofits, The Village Institute and Convivir Colorado. Over dinner, each attendee shared a toast in honor of their migrant story. After dinner, MOTUS THEATER's improv troupe ‘played back’ people's stories. The power of storytelling was on full display and I couldn't have been more proud. 💡Lesson learned: The importance of intentional group agreements. When bringing a group together, it's a host's job to ensure psychological safety (especially when they're mostly strangers). At this event, we set agreements of “co-creating a safe and brave space” as well as “stories stay, learnings leave” (ie confidentiality). 💪YOUR TURN: what’s your favorite group agreement? You may have wondered, “What does the Multiverse have to do with survivors?” Our movement requires us to notice and acknowledge the multiple realities survivors face, the unique pathways survivors may seek for healing, and the various worlds we must navigate to support them on their journey and advocate for change. The multiverse additionally offers a metaphor for understanding the intricate layers of an individual's identity. These layers and intersections of identity can play a role in a survivor’s journey and path. Watch the video regarding our conference theme, "Dive into the Multiverse: Navigating Multiple Realities."
