There seems to be a disconnect between climate action and people's views on #climateclimate. Yet the results of the Peoples' Climate Vote is loud and crystal clear. 80% (!) want their governments to have stronger climate commitments. 75,000 people voted. Here are the key highlights: 🌍 89% of poorer countries are in favour of increasing efforts to curb emissions. Which means that who is impacted by #climatechange is in favour of more #climateaction 🌍 71% of respondents believe that immediate action is required within the next decade to decrease carbon emissions 💚 68% think that the economy should prioritize the #health and well-being of people and nature over merely focusing on profit 🌍69% of respondents indicated that their big life decisions are already impacted by the #climatecrisis. This is astonishing - and I assume this is set to increase in the future! There is an increasing global consensus of the importance of climate change. Let's hope we are all here to listen - especially as national governments are revising their #NDCs. Link to further comments 👇 #PeoplesClimateVote #UNDP

I’m sorry to say this is a fairly damning assessment of progress by the Scottish Government towards climate goals as set out by the U.K. Committee on Climate Change. Many of us have known for some time- one hardly needed to be Sherlock Holmes - that we were badly off track in a whole series of areas. But it’s still sobering to see the lack of progress in so many areas laid out so starkly ( or is that so Chris Stark ly?) My wish is that the Scottish Government in future focusses less on headland grabbing ‘world leading ambitions’- which too often just look like a desire to be different/better than the U.K. overall- and is more focussed on delivery Well worth a read #climatechange #climatecrisis #Scottishtargets #progress https://lnkd.in/eRX-vt75

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has just launched the world’s largest standalone public opinion survey on climate change. And the results may surprise you. Covering 77 countries and representing 87% of the world’s population, the #PeoplesClimateVote 2024 explores a world of views on the climate crisis. People were asked how they are being affected by the impacts of #ClimateChange, and what actions they want their leaders to take. The survey found that an overwhelming 80% of people around the world want their country to take stronger #ClimateAction. With critical climate thresholds dangerously close, the people have asked for stronger commitments from their government, including a quick transition away from fossil fuels, international collaboration on climate and many other key climate policies. Check out the results today to see what climate action people want to see from their country. 👉 peoplesclimate.vote

Climate crisis disproportionately burdens the world's financially constrained & vulnerable populations. So climate finance is not a choice, it's a matter of survival to build resilence and adaptation. Urgent action is needed to secure a livable future for all. Inaction is no longer an option. #ClimateAction #ClimateFinance #RiseUpmovent #JustTransition Vanessa Nakate Tard Foundation

Some 52% of UK citizens and 39% of US citizens consider climate change one of the most important problems their country faces, according to a new study by the Policy Institute at King's College London, Ipsos, and the Climate Action Coalition. “Whilst views on climate change are split in line with political allegiances, the majority of the British public and over a third of the US public consider climate change to be an important issue and are also more optimistic than pessimistic about stopping the effects of climate change," commented Rachel Brisley, head of environment and energy, Ipsos UK. #climatechange #uk #usa #sustainability Read more: https://lnkd.in/emQp6TUg

Today is World Climate Day🌍 and as illustrated by the ongoing discussions at COP28, climate change is an increasingly urgent issue that must be addressed. At Advans, we are convinced that financial inclusion players have a key role to play to help small businesses and farmers build their resilience. That’s why we’ve been working to understand how climate change will impact the clients that we finance, and why we are now looking to develop financial and non-financial solutions to help our clients adapt. Learn more about our approach in our recent video shared during financial inclusion week, which focuses on the first key learnings from our climate risk analysis in Ghana. #GrowingTogether #WorldClimateDay #ClimateAction #ClimateResilience ➡️ https://lnkd.in/gbvpwXxT

With the much-needed and long overdue push towards delivering a low carbon future and efforts to achieve net zero and net positive outcomes dominating much of the climate narrative, it's important not to lose sight of the other side of the climate emergency coin - addressing our exposure, vulnerability and sensitivity to climate hazards including natural disasters. The publication of this National Climate Risk Assessment report marks an important moment in reflecting this need for action and recognising the far-reaching and systemic impacts faced.
Australians have always been good at adapting and finding solutions that suit the climate we live in. But scientists tell us there are some impacts of climate change that are now locked in. We need to keep working to reduce emissions, but we also need to think about adapting to climate change. The last government refused to listen to the experts. We’ve brought them together to produce Australia’s first ever National Climate Risk Assessment. Our government is laying the foundations for a whole of community and economy effort to build resilience and better prepare for the impacts of climate change. Read the report below.
