We had the pleasure of being in conversation with Fellows from the Indo-Pacific region yesterday as part of their six-week fellowship hosted by Melbourne Climate Futures. We talked about what needs to happen to engage meaningfully at all levels – especially with youth, to ensure climate actions are equitable and sustainable into the future. We feel so lucky to have learned so much, some key insights include: 🌱Youth must be consulted and want more opportunities to be in dialogue with decision makers and to make climate policies, but decision makers must also build and respect trust for future generations. 🌱Youth deserve and require access to evidence-based climate information about their futures. 🌱Climate action is seeded in the home, in families and in local communities, we must be open and adaptive to learn new knowledge and experience. We wish the Fellows an exciting next three weeks in Naarm and look forward to following their climate leadership into the future! #BeAmbitious #LeadOnClimate #Leadership #ClimateChange

Impact is made by being Unreasonable. “The reasonable person adapts themselves to the world; The unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to themselves. Therefore all progress depends on unreasonable people.” Do you feel this statement by George Bernard Shaw? We do, as a group of Unreasonable Mentors. We believe in ensuring a just future. Now. We envision a world where our greatest leaders: →Act with integrity. →See vulnerability as a strength. →Taking action and learning > talking. →Prioritize people and planet over numbers. →Will solve humanity's most pressing challenges. Because, our world cannot wait. And neither can we. It was a connective gathering of Unreasonable Mentors and Fellows gearing up for SF Climate Week. Many thanks to Radhika Malpani and Divya Demato, for getting us together. If you're attending the event, please be in touch! cc: Adam Erickson, Arun Gupta, Anshuman Bapna, David Tze, Karen Sheffield, MBA, Kelli Richards, Murilo Johas Menezes, Joseph Luttwak, Jeff Matthews, Alexandra Manoloff, Dori Rutkevitz, Daniel Epstein, Sophie Sandham

🌟Let me reintroduce myself to the world at 20 years old ✨ Climate Champions- Race to Resilience youth fellow Reflecting on the words of Paul Watson, I find purpose in doing what's morally right. My journey began in the humblest of settings—a small wooden house in the poorest community of the Kalinago territory. Surrounded by nature, I cultivated a deep love for gardening alongside my parents. From being an unknown village boy, I've evolved into a Mentor, role model, speaker, and passionate Climate Advocate. Among my proudest achievements is creating History by becoming the youngest and first indigenous youth to join the esteemed Climate Champions Team (CCT) as a Race to Resilience youth fellow- where we support the UN Climate Change High-Level Champions to drive real world momentum in Global Climate Action. We do this by mobilising climate action amongst non-state actors (companies, cities, regions, financial, educational and healthcare institutions) to achieve the goals of the Paris Agreement, in close collaboration with the UNFCCC, the Marrakech Partnership and the COP Presidencies. This journey isn't just about personal milestones; it's a testament to the resilience, passion, and dedication of my community towards our planet. The support of my mentors, teachers, family, former Kalinago leaders, and community members has been invaluable. Together, we are committed to safeguarding our planet for future generations—a task that truly exemplifies the adage 'it takes a village.' Let us all be reminded that each individual possesses the power to effect positive change. 🌿🌟 #ClimateChampions #FerdisonValmond #IndigenousExcellence #EnvironmentalAdvocacy #YouthLeadership"

I was thinking this week about the general lack of attention to #ClimateChange amongst #HigherEd executive leaders. I suspect that many of these leaders want to do something, but the fear of being seen as an amateur around #ClimateAction and #ClimateScience keeps many of them stuck. Today, as yet another climate disaster bears down on us, is a good day to face these fears. As institutions of teaching and learning, I believe that the way forward to becoming truly #ClimateInformed institutions is to start with our faculty. My suggestion: empower your faculty. Invest in your faculty. Believe in faculty creativity. Pay your faculty for their labor. Work with faculty to shift their scopes of practice toward #ClimateActionPedagogy. Great leaders don't have to be experts on everything; they do need to celebrate and support the expertise of their team. #HigherEd is uniquely positioned to not only educate our citizens for the era of #ClimateChange, but also be role models for the entirety of society to show them that transformational change is possible. And to be clear, nothing short of radical transformations will save us. You might have folks on your team already who can lead and do this work. If not, I've put together a list of #ClimateActionPedagogy support organizations. May it be of benefit.
