🛰 As we move towards a space-powered economy, discussing challenges and collaborating across sectors becomes central to developing innovative solutions. At our conference in November, you’ll hear how the European Space Agency’s Business Applications and Space Solutions (BASS) Team is working with industry partners in specialist task forces to explore the potential role of space technology and data in addressing some of the most pressing challenges faced by key industry sectors. In October 2022 we launched the Task Force for Innovation in Energy Through Space (Energy Task Force). Its main purpose is to leverage space applications in innovative services that foster a clean, green energy ecosystem and support the growth of a sustainable green economy. In September 2023 we initiated the Task Force for Smart and Green Cities, bringing together representatives from city authorities and municipal bodies around the world to advance solutions that prioritise reducing environmental impact in cities and creating and maintaining healthier, more sustainable places to live and work. At the end of January 2024 we announced the launch of our Maritime Sustainability Task Force, working with partners from across the sector with a joint mission to develop and deliver innovative projects to support maritime decarbonisation, protect marine ecosystems and help strengthen the maritime economy across Europe and beyond. ‘Towards a Space-Powered Economy’ on 25-26 November is a conference centred on encouraging cross-sector collaboration to unleash the potential of space technologies for every sector. Join us in November. Register today ➡️ https://lnkd.in/euR889_z Davide Coppola Rita Rinaldo Liz Barrow Asimina (Mina) Syriou Dr Kavitha Muthu Maria Zaretskaya

#Climatechange and #environmentalcrisis are an existential threat to Europe and the world 🌍. To address these challenges, the European Commission adopted the European Green Deal in 2020, a set of policy initiatives with the overarching aim of making the EU climate neutral by 2050. Regarding energy, the #EUGreenDeal focuses on: 🔹 Ensuring a secure and affordable EU energy supply 🔹 Developing a fully integrated, interconnected and digitalised EU energy market 🔹 Prioritising #energyefficiency, improving the energy performance of our #buildings and developing a power sector based largely on #renewablesources. In particular, the BUILDSPACE Project aims to support Green Deal objectives by developing innovative applications to support buildings’ energy efficiency and cities’ resilience and #sustainability 🌱🏙️. ⚡ To discover the #BUILDSPACEproject, visit our website and follow us on our social media: https://lnkd.in/eH8kVzxh Let’s build a sustainable world together!💪🚀 EUSPA - EU Agency for the Space Programme SingularLogic SPACE HELLAS S.A. Distinguished Professor Xuemei Bai published an expert piece in Science making the case for 'altruistic cities': bit.ly/3AQ89Cx "(there is a) need for a more widespread and deeper intercity cooperation... ... the efforts of a small number of front-runner cities will not be sufficient to achieve carbon emission reduction targets or ensure that the planet remains within its safe and just Earth system boundaries. Thus, there is a compelling incentive for leading cities to engage with lagging counterparts and bring them into cooperative frameworks."
