🌍🦁 *Celebrate Wildlife Conservation Day* December 4th is Wildlife Conservation Day, when we’re reminded of the incredible biodiversity on our planet—and the urgent need to protect it. 🌱 From majestic elephants to tiny pollinators, every species plays a critical role in maintaining the balance of our ecosystems. Here’s how climate change and habitat loss are affecting wildlife: 🦋 Declining Populations: Species like monarch butterflies have seen drastic declines due to habitat destruction and changing weather patterns. 🐾 Shifting Habitats: Rising temperatures are forcing species like polar bears and mountain goats to move to new areas, threatening their survival. 🌊 Ocean Warming: Coral reefs, home to 25% of marine life, are dying off due to warming seas and acidification. What can YOU do to help? 🌱 Advocate for climate action 🌳 Support organizations restoring habitats ♻️ Reduce your ecological footprint Let’s stand together to protect the wildlife that makes our planet so extraordinary. 💚 🌐 www.climb4climate.org ✉️ info@climb4climate.org 🌿 Follow for info about upcoming events 🌎 Like and share to help fight climate change #WildlifeConservationDay #ProtectOurPlanet #ClimateAction Sources: [World Wildlife Fund] [United Nations Environment Programme] [National Geographic]

#snsinstitutions #snsdesignthinkers #designthinking Wildlife conservation refers to the practice of protecting wild species and their habitats in order to maintain healthy wildlife species or populations and to restore, protect or enhance natural ecosystems. Major threats to wildlife include habitat destruction, degradation, fragmentation, overexploitation, poaching, pollution, climate change, and the illegal wildlife trade. The IUCN estimates that 42,100 species of the ones assessed are at risk for extinction.[1] Expanding to all existing species, a 2019 UN report on biodiversity put this estimate even higher at a million species. It is also being acknowledged that an increasing number of ecosystems on Earth containing endangered species are disappearing. To address these issues, there have been both national and international governmental efforts to preserve Earth's wildlife. Prominent conservation agreements include the 1973 Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) and the 1992 Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD).[2][3] There are also numerous nongovernmental organizations (NGO's) dedicated to conservation such as the Nature Conservancy, World Wildlife Fund, and Conservation International.

Celebrate US National Wildlife Day! Join us in recognizing and protecting the incredible wildlife that calls our country home. Let's raise awareness, take action, and make a difference for our furry and feathered friends. Together, we can ensure a thriving future for all. #NationalWildlifeDay #ProtectOurWildlife #JoinTheCause As of 2023, the United States is home to a vast array of wildlife, with approximately 432 species of mammals, over 800 species of birds, and 300 species of reptiles. Despite conservation efforts, nearly 1,300 species are currently listed as threatened or endangered under the Endangered Species Act. If this is indeed true that is very frightening as it includes almost all of our wildlife! The U.S. also faces significant challenges from habitat loss, climate change, and invasive species, which continue to impact the health and diversity of its ecosystems. Conservation programs remain critical in protecting these species and preserving the nation's rich biodiversity.

OCEANS ALIVE CONSERVATION TRUST OUR PLANET • OUR FUTURE Let's love, respect, appreciate and protect our oceans, nature, wildlife, and our amazing planet. WORLD CASSOWARY DAY 2024 World Cassowary Day is celebrated annually on September 26th to raise awareness about cassowaries, their importance to ecosystems, and the need for their conservation. Cassowaries are large, flightless birds native to the tropical rainforests of northern Australia, New Guinea, and nearby islands. Known for their striking appearance and unique role as "rainforest gardeners”, they help maintain forest diversity by dispersing seeds over large areas. However, Cassowary populations are under threat due to habitat loss, road accidents, and conflicts with humans. World Cassowary Day highlights the critical need to protect these endangered birds and their ever dwindling and threatened habitats. Conservation organizations, wildlife enthusiasts, and local communities come together on this day, to celebrate the species, educate the public, and promote initiatives that support cassowary conservation, ensuring the survival of this iconic species and the ecosystems they sustain. World Wildlife Day 03/03/2024 - OCEANS ALIVE CONSERVATION TRUST OUR PLANET • OUR FUTURE Let's love, respect, appreciate and protect our oceans, nature, wildlife, and our amazing planet. World Wildlife Day is a wonderful opportunity to notice, appreciate, celebrate and take action for our amazing blue planet. On this World Wildlife Day, we need to be reminded that all of nature, our oceans, marine wildlife, wild animals, trees, and plants, are our special and very privileged heritage to respect and protect. Many species are on the brink of extinction due to greed and unsustainable human behaviour. Elephants, rhinos, tigers, pangolins, sharks, penguins, turtles and many other wildlife species are now critically endangered due to uncontrolled, unacceptable human activities such as poaching, deforestation, illegal wildlife trafficking, habitat destruction, hunting and pollution. We are the custodians of the planet, and we are all responsible for the current sad state of all wildlife, and we are all responsible for their future welfare, protection and conservation. 73% Drop in Global Wildlife Populations The World Wildlife Fund latest report reveals a staggering 73% decline in wildlife populations between 1970 and 2020. Climate change is one of the disruptions to wildlife by altering habitats, shifting migration, and disrupting food sources. Species with specialized needs or slow reproduction are at higher risk of extinction. This alarming figure highlights the urgent need for stronger conservation efforts to protect the planet’s biodiversity. Now more than ever, it’s clear that collective action is needed to reverse these devastating trends. Our ecosystems—and the future generations that depend on them—cannot afford further delays.
