In two weeks from now, May 31, the Thalassaemia International Federation (TIF) will be in #Geneva, #Switzerland, for a special Side Event, entitled “Access to Novel Therapies Globally: Opportunities and Challenges”, scheduled to take place in the context of the upcoming World Health Assembly #WHA77. For this event, TIF will join forces with the World Federation of Hemophilia / Fédération mondiale de l'hémophilie (WFH) to ignite crucial #dialogue on new therapies among key stakeholders by fostering #awareness and promoting collaborative strategies to unravel the multiple #challenges surrounding them. We are on the brink of a new era in #medicine, but it comes with BIG questions: 🔹 How can WHO #MemberStates ensure that #PatientRights to these advanced therapies are preserved? 🔹 How do we close the widening #HealthGap between economies? 📢We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who participated to our side event, “Why Prioritize Rare Diseases in Global Health Policy?”, held alongside the World Health Summit in 📍 Berlin from 📅 October 13-15. 🚨 This event came at a critical time, leveraging the World Health Assembly (WHA) Resolution on Rare Diseases, co-sponsored by Egypt, Spain, Qatar, Malaysia, France, Chile and Panama, calling for a Global Action Plan to address the challenges faced by over 300 million Persons Living with a Rare Disease #PLWRD worldwide. The session explored how #PLWRD can be integrated into Universal Health Coverage #UHC, and how innovative approaches contribute to equity, health systems strengthening, and the Global Health 2035 Goals. 🤝 We are deeply grateful for the thoughtful contributions from over 100 attendees, including representatives from the Ministries of Health of Egypt, Spain, Qatar, and France, as well as RDI members from Germany, India, and Spain. 💡 Key Takeaways: 📍 A systems approach is essential: Rare diseases must be part of Noncommunicable diseases #NCD and UHC frameworks. 📍 Wider social impacts: Rare diseases affect patients and their families, workmates, and communities. 📍 Political will is crucial: Co-sponsoring the WHA Resolution places rare diseases at the highest level of the global health agenda. Today is significant as the Global Initiative on Digital Health #GIDH is launched. Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus rightly stated, "The future of health is digital". It is crucial to coordinate and collaborate at the global, national, and subnational levels to create sustainable digital health interventions. #GIDH aims to assist Member States in advancing their national digital health transformation by enhancing collaboration among existing networks and partners and amplifying current multinational and regional activities.

🌐 Insightful Update on Global Health:👨⚕️ Meet Prof. Dr. Axel R. Pries, President of the World Health Summit (WHS) and a respected figure in global health initiatives. With a diverse background as a physician, physiologist, and former director of the Institute of Physiology at Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin, Prof. Pries is guiding the WHS towards significant achievements. Under his stewardship since 2021, the WHS has evolved from its modest beginnings in 2009 into a dynamic platform for international collaboration in health. 📈 Reflecting on the past 14 years, Prof. Pries acknowledges the substantial progress of the WHS, initially established in 2009 to commemorate Charité's 300th anniversary.
