Here's why ➡️ Yesterday I came across a post from David Ong wherein he shared that: ____________________________ ✨ "𝗣𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗮𝗰𝘁 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗹 𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗼𝗱, 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱." ✨ ____________________________ The full context can be read in his post (see comments) but essentially, that this is part of the first principles in Persuasion, when you're trying to help people and organisations 𝘰𝘱𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘪𝘴𝘦 𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘦. It resonated deeply with me because in all of my advisory and consulting work, I focus on actually 𝙚𝙛𝙛𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙗𝙚𝙝𝙖𝙫𝙞𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙘𝙝𝙖𝙣𝙜𝙚 (which is one of our USPs). Long after the snazzy powerpoint slides, leaders and managers are left scratching their collective heads to understand what exactly needs to happen next. Just to be clear, "𝘦𝘧𝘧𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘣𝘦𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘪𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘦" does not happen with the transmission of knowledge or even frameworks. It doesn't happen through discourse and discussion. Even rules & regulations rarely get implemented in the right spirit, especially in times of greatest customer need. So what's my dining table got to do with this? -------------------------------------------- One of my favourite case studies in my workshops concerns the impact of the humble dining table in all of our lives. Have you realised that our dining tables are the scene of deep family discussions, heartbreak and love? For many of us, the dining table is where we started as babies, growing up telling, or listening to, stories during meal times, and ending up perhaps even feeding our aged, infirm parents before they passed on. Our dining tables connect us to our past, present and even hopeful future. We've had ours for nearly 15 years now (as old as my oldest child). -------------------------------------------- 𝗘𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗿𝗲 𝗵𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗯𝗲 𝗯𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗼𝗿 𝘀𝗼𝗹𝗱, 𝗼𝗿 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗼𝗿𝗲𝗱, because of our dining tables. I remember when we were looking to buy in Dubai, perfectly good homes were rejected by us. There was 𝘫𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘴𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘸𝘳𝘰𝘯𝘨 with each one of them...Our agents were getting frustrated, as were we. And we just couldn't put our finger on it. When we eventually found our "perfect" place...it also happened to fit the dining table. Go figure. Moral of the story? ➡️ If you'd like to transform your business and the organisation, focus on ensuring you make your teams and people 𝙁𝙀𝙀𝙇 𝙪𝙣𝙙𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙩𝙤𝙤𝙙, rather than on transmitting knowledge and reasons to them to 𝘮𝘢𝘬𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘮 𝘶𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘥.
