Interesting article shared by Gina Fratarcangeli from HBR on why genAI is not a sustainable competitive advantage. If GenAI is not a business-wide sustained competitive advantage, then the real advantage is to the employees using it to be better at their jobs. In that world, the power dynamic shifts to employees who can create value quickly with these generic models. This actually becomes a threat as it's easy for them to move to a competitor and do it again and faster. It would be ironic if things work out that way given much of what I read. Yet we see this playing out with OpenAI employees leaving. The competitive advantage opportunity now, I believe, is how you can leverage the tech to take competitor market share aligned with a strategy that lets you grow an overall product/service footprint. Too many focused on cost takeout where the real opportunity is growth…and not everyone wins that race.
