In 2024 CFA Society South Africa emphasised building market integrity through ethics and ESG standards. For instance, they hosted an ESG-focused webinar addressing greenwashing risks and promoting the CFA Institute's Global ESG Disclosure Standards for Investment Products. The society implemented a chapter model for countries in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region, fostering localised initiatives tailored to specific country needs. This effort supports the growth of investment professionals and market development beyond South Africa, crucial for regional integration and capital market development. The CFA Society also expanded its University Outreach Program, adding two universities to the CFA Institute's affiliation program and hosting various candidate support initiatives like revision sessions and scholarships. #capitalmarkets #sustainability

What an incredible experience! Returning to the classroom at Saïd Business School must have been so enriching, especially surrounded by such talented individuals. It's inspiring to hear how much value you gained not only from the curriculum but also from the diverse perspectives of your peers. Lifelong learning truly is the key to staying ahead, and it’s clear you’re embracing that fully. Kudos to you for continuing to grow and build such meaningful connections along the way! How do you see these insights shaping your approach to venture finance in the near future?
Earlier this month, I had the privilege of returning to the classroom at the Africa Venture Finance Programme at Saïd Business School, University of Oxford. eing surrounded by brilliant minds was a powerful reminder of how much there is still to absorb. A special thanks to the exceptional team—Aunnie Patton Power, Professor Thomas Hellmann, David van Dijk and Anna Niedergesäss for guiding us through the ever-evolving world of venture finance. Some of the most valuable insights came not only from the curriculum but also from the rich conversations, debates, and shared experiences with fellow fund managers from across Africa. Thank you European Investment Bank (EIB) and AfricaGrow for making this program possible. Learning never ends, and the relationships we build are as valuable as the knowledge we gain along the way. It was great to meet or re-connect with everyone! Great to be speaking at AFME (Association for Financial Markets in Europe)’s annual Sustainable Finance Conference here in Amsterdam. Very few events globally have the convening power to attract such a caliber and breadth of sustainable finance expertise from across the financial sector in a single place and time. Teaming up today with Man Group’s Jason Mitchell, PGIM’s John Ploeg, M&G plc’s Ben Constable Maxwell and European Investment Bank (EIB)‘s Constance Kann to deliver a deep dive into evolving approaches of assets allocators to climate solutions, measuring success within transition investing and what is needed to urgently scale up transition finance. We will also discuss emerging potential conflicts between fiduciary duties and climate goals based on Tom Gosling’s recent work (“Universal Owners and Climate Change”) and debate a thought-provoking paper from Kelly Shue and Sam Hartzmark on “Counterproductive Sustainable Investing”. Knowing my co-panellists, I am sure we will digress into plenty more… #AFME #SustainableInvesting #TransitionFinance #ClimateSolutions Nomura Man Group European Investment Bank (EIB) PGIM M&G plc

I was part of this panel today. Interesting debate about mobilisation AND SME finance in emerging markets, and the extent to which they are best tackled together, or viewed as separate albeit linked challenges. I think I'm in the latter camp
