Before this, there were several other battery types that paved the way for today's electric vehicles. As one of the earliest examples of electric vehicles, Gustave Trouvé's tricycle from 1879 was powered by lead-acid batteries. These batteries were a technological breakthrough at the time, enabling a range of 14-16 km and a top speed of 12 km/h. However, battery technology stagnated. The next significant breakthrough came In the 1910s in the shape of nickel-iron batteries. These laid the foundation for the development of even more advanced battery types in the later decades of the 20th century. It's exciting to see how the battery technology for electric vehicles has evolved to the lithium-ion batteries that are used today. And we are not slowing down. What are solid-state batteries? Solid-state batteries replace the liquid or gel-like electrolyte in conventional lithium-ion batteries with a solid substance. This results in higher energy density, improved safety and potentially faster charging times. Why is this important?
