It was an incredible opportunity to attend the #SMEAssembly, thanks to DGGrow, The Hungarian Presidency, European Innovation Council and SMEs Executive Agency (EISMEA), LOW, and the organizing team for creating this experience. The SME Assembly 2024 provided valuable lessons for European SMEs. Outi Slotboom highlighted the need for simpler, user-friendly policies to remove barriers and enable cross-border growth. With limited funding compared to U.S. counterparts, strengthening the Capital Markets Union and investor partnerships is essential. Sustainability remains Europe’s competitive edge, with SMEs leading by embedding responsibility into operations. Most importantly, the event’s true value was from the connections and the shared vision among its participants. My biggest takeaway from this event was the Schumpeter ‘Innovation in Enterprise’ lecture. Johan Wiklund delved into the strategies for building and supporting these competitive startup ecosystems. He emphasized the importance of creating environments where innovation, collaboration, and diverse stakeholders come together to drive progress. Innovation ecosystems are the backbone of sustainable economic and entrepreneurial growth.
