FOSTER FRIDAY As a foster parent, taking care of yourself is just as important as caring for the children in your home. A self-care jar is a simple yet powerful tool to remind you to prioritize your well-being. How to Create a Self-Care Jar: 1. Find a Jar: Any jar or container will do! 2. Write Self-Care Ideas: On slips of paper, write down different self-care activities. These can be as simple as taking a walk, reading a book, enjoying a warm bath, or even taking a few minutes to meditate. 3. Pull a Slip Daily: Each day, pull a slip from the jar and make time for that activity. Remember, you can't pour from an empty cup. Prioritizing self-care helps you stay strong and supportive for your foster children. 💪💖 Share your self-care ideas in the comments below! 👇 📲 call 855.830.5062 #FosterFriday #StrongerFamiliesTogether #SupportSDFosterCare #SouthDakotaFosterCare #FosterCareSD #SupportSDKids #SDKidsNeedYou #BeAFosterParent #ChangingLivesSD

TITLE: Foster the Family AUTHOR: Jamie C. Finn GENRE: Foster Parent Help Book FROM INSTAGRAM PAGE: Jamie explains: ”This is the book I wish I had when I became a foster parent. I knew God had something to say about how I walked as a foster parent, but, well, it wasn't clear exactly what. The words "foster care" aren't in the Bible, after all. But foster care is there, all throughout God's Word-teaching & encouraging & challenging & leading. Lessons on family & love & service, forgiveness & peace & trust weaved through every page. This book was born out of my stumbling & struggling & learning on this journey of foster parenting.” If interested, you can order a copy of Foster the Family on their website at https://lnkd.in/edB6Za5M. Parents, if you are struggling to get your adopted or foster children to behave, you are not alone. Tell me what your biggest struggle is, and I can tell you that the problem is NOT that you are a bad parent or that you are not disciplined enough or just not cut out for this. Any other parent would probably Struggle too if they didn't understand the impact of your child's early childhood experiences of being separated from their birth parents. That's why I am offering a FREE Masterclass for adoptive parents, foster parents, kinship parents and people who work with adopted and foster children. Once you recognize what is happening with your child, you are on your way to transforming your family life. Excited to share our (together with Lieselot De Wilde) latest article in Child & Family Social Work. Our study explores shared parenthood in long-term foster care placements, delving into the perspectives of both parents and foster carers. 💡By uncovering both facilitating and hindering factors, we shed light on the complex dynamics of shared parenting. We emphasize the importance of recognizing and (continuously) discussing the normative conceptions of shared parenting to enable its successful implementation. 📄 Curious to dive into the full article and discover the nuanced strategies for navigating shared parenting in long-term foster care? ➡ https://lnkd.in/dXZZbRYj

🤔 💭 How do you want caregiver applicants to feel when working with your agency? 📈 In this #FFTA session, Sarah Braun, Tiffany Bailey, and Rabin Hooper shared the impactful work they did at SAFY of America to iterate on SAFY's foster caregiver application experience and ensure that all applicants working with SAFY feel engaged, welcomed, and supported. 🗣 The team shared their learnings from mapping the "customer journey" and the changes they've made within the approval process to align with best practices in foster parent licensing. 🧠 Attendees had a chance to reflect on how they want prospective caregivers to feel when working with their agency, learn how to work with their team to map out the caregiver applicant "customer journey", and consider how to use tools like Binti's Approvals Module to create and track the impact of offering a thoughtful customized applicant experience. 💙 Reach out to me (or Leslie White!) if you are interested in learning more. Happy to share a copy of the slide deck, a link to the "Customer Journey Roadmap" worksheet, or access to a pre-recording of the session
Partnering with SAFY on Best Practices in Foster Parent Recruitment: Last week we had the opportunity to present best practices on foster parent recruitment and licensing with SAFY (Specialized Alternatives for Families and Youth) at the 38th annual #FFTA Conference in Denver, CO. It was inspiring to see agencies across the country share how they developed their “customer journeys” to get to their ultimate goal: more qualified foster families to provide more stable and safe homes. SAFY is an amazing partner that serves thousands of families in seven states across the country. We’re so proud of the work we’ve done together to support families and children! #FFTAconf #FFTADenver #childwelfare #FFTACommunity
