HPAI Outbreak in the US A highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) outbreak is currently affecting dairy cows and poultry in the United States. The USDA, FDA, CDC, and state officials are investigating cases of HPAI H5N1, also known as "bird flu." HPAI is a virus that spreads naturally in wild aquatic birds but can infect poultry, dairy cattle, and other animal species. While rare, human infection can occur through contact with infected birds or animals. There is no evidence of human-to-human transmission in the US, but the CDC is monitoring the situation closely. 13 human cases have been reported in the US in 2024, primarily among dairy and poultry workers. If you work with animals, take necessary protective measures to minimize exposure. Know the symptoms in humans, which can include fever, cough, and body aches. Remember, the current public health risk is low, but vigilance is key. To learn more go to the CDC website at https://loom.ly/LAoz8As #HPAI #BirdFlu #PublicHealth #AnimalHealth
