🔚 #BIOEuropeSpring is coming to an end. We are wrapping up three days of learnings, partnering meetings, and promoting the #BioRegionCatalonia. In this edition, hosted in #Barcelona, a noteworthy delegation of professionals and companies based in Catalonia have taken part: 💼 150 delegates 🚀 90 companies & startups During the event, the attendees had the chance to discover firsthand that, as Robert Fabregat Fuentes (Biocat's CEO) says, #Catalonia is not just a good innovative ecosystem but: 💬 “it is one of the most importants in Europe and around the world. We are at the TOP 10 position in the development of clinical trials, in retention of #investment for our companies and in the number of papers and scientific publications”. Johan Weigelt conference organized by CERCA opened the second edition of the Connection Day, an initiative by CataloniaBio & HealthTech to connecting and gathering within the health sector. Weigelt talked about the close relationship among academia, healthcare, and industry and underlined the specificities of the Swedish system as the so-called ‘Professors privilege’, which means that intellectual properties are owned by professors and investigators. “This system has pros and cons, but it works” he said. De Croo wants EU biotech leadership ambition, cites Belgium's health and biotech valley Amidst fierce competition from the US and China, De Croo's vision aligns with the European Commission's ambitions for strengthening the sector, citing the Belgian Health & Biotech Valley as the example to follow. Two years ago De Croo began developing a Health & Biotech Valley strategy to boost the sector in Belgium during the next five to ten years. Advancing the innovation ecosystem in the Netherlands is a high priority, because we have dropped 1 spot almost every year in the #GlobalInnovationIndex, from nr 4 in the world in 2019 to number 7 in 2023. And who has been nr 1 every single year? Switzerland!
