"Empower others to empower themselves". This is the quintessence of the Women in Localization Mentorship Program. I am thrilled to share my journey as a mentor. I have had the privilege of working with two amazing mentees. This journey has been nothing short of transformative, illustrating the profound impact of mentorship on all involved. As a mentor, I found myself learning and growing alongside my mentees. I was surprised and relieved to discover that we all shared common fears and concerns, from self-doubt to reinventing ourselves. This connection fostered a strong bond between us and highlighted the beauty of mentorship as a two-way street. Witnessing my mentees blossom into mentors themselves was a powerful moment. They began to share their insights and encouragement, embodying the spirit of mentorship that Women in Localization champions. Together, we inspired one another to tap into our innate strengths, confront our mental blocks, and take bold steps toward our personal visions. We realized how personal branding goes hand in hand with company branding and contributes to mutual success. Additionally, we discovered that entrepreneurship for translators is a "we can do this" journey, as long as we focus on success. This experience reinforced my belief in the power of mentorship: not just in giving guidance, but in creating a supportive environment where we can all thrive. I encourage everyone in the Women in Localization community to embrace the mentorship experience, whether as a mentor or mentee. Together, let’s continue to uplift and inspire each other! Thank you for allowing me to share my journey, and I look forward to hearing about yours as well! #MentorshipMatters #WomenInLocalization #Empowerment #Leadership #Growth #Inspiration #WomenEmpoweringWomen #mentorship #mentor #mentee #TranslationIndustry #LocalizationIndustry

✨Reflecting on the Power of Professional Mentorship✨ Mentorship significantly impacts an individual's life, yet it often goes unappreciated. As I navigate my professional journey, I want to take a moment to express my gratitude for the mentors who have been not just guides but also catalysts for inspiration, challenges, and support. They have provided insights that textbooks don't cover and shared experiences that resonate long after our conversations end. Thank you, TechWomen, for providing me with what I didn’t realise I needed and for the guidance I may have taken for granted earlier in my career. Now, I truly understand its value! To Pixie Newman and Leslie Lassi - I can't find the words to describe how much your mentorship has smoothed the rough edges of my path. Yes, Pixie, I am slowing down now, and Leslie, the confidence you’ve instilled in me makes me feel like I can take over the world—just not quite yet! Victoria B., thank you for showing me that the world is as big as my imagination allows. Sebay Janet Bintu Koroma, your push was exactly what I needed, and I appreciate it. Special thanks to Mike Winter, PE, for highlighting the importance of strategic career planning, envisioning my goals and identifying steps to achieve them, such as gaining international exposure and building connections. Our discussions on mine closure and land remediation have clarified how I want to contribute to environmental solutions in my country. TechWomen made a difference in my life, especially in an industry where mentorship for young professionals, particularly women, isn’t always accessible. Supported and guided by mentors who value diverse talents, I’m determined to make a meaningful impact and achieve my goals. Thank you for encouraging me to take risks, stay committed, and believe in my potential. For those with a mentor or who mentor others, let’s keep paying it forward. The impact of mentorship is limitless, and we all thrive when we lift each other. #mentorship #gratitude #growth #leadership #careerdevelopment #techwomen #environmentalstewardship

𝐌𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐢𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐤 I’m humbled to be a mentor in our 'She for Her' mentorship program at DataArt, which is dedicated to supporting and empowering women. This role has been highly rewarding for me and I'd like to share my thoughts and insights from the journey so far. If you envision mentorship as a process in which a mentor imparts wisdom to a mentee, you couldn’t be further from the truth. Mentorship, as I experience it, is vastly superior to traditional knowledge sharing because the mentor is an equal partner in the learning process. A good mentor doesn’t let their own opinions prevail over the thoughts and ideas of the mentee. A mentor's mission is to encourage a mentee to identify their limitations, set and achieve goals, and do so by asking the right questions and helping mentees explore solutions. It is a collaborative endeavor fueled by the curiosity and openness of both mentor and mentee. The benefits of mentorship to mentees are widely documented and publicized, so I thought I’d share the rewards and learnings I’ve experienced as a mentor: 𝐀 𝐧𝐞𝐰 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 Professional roles often confine us to particular teams, areas of competence and workplace structures. Mentorship allowed me to step into the shoes of someone outside of my usual network and to understand a new perspective, adding color and nuance to my worldview. Additionally, connecting to colleagues who work in the trenches and serve clients allows me to appreciate the context that a leadership position typically overlooks. 𝐌𝐚𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐦𝐲 𝐨𝐰𝐧 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐬 If you want to test your knowledge of something, explain it to someone else. This principle applies perfectly to mentorship. The responsibility of supporting someone on their journey forces me to think deeply and refine my understanding of my own experience in a way that can be distilled and articulate enough to be shared confidently. This mental and emotional work is valuable to me. 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨 𝐚𝐬𝐤 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐪𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 In taking on the role of a mentor, it’s easy to assume that you have the answers and it may be tempting to oversimplify the complexity of the questions to fit the answers that you do have. I’m learning to take time and be very thoughtful about the kind of questions, the answers to which would be most beneficial to the progress of my mentee. 𝐄𝐦𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐫𝐞𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝 Finally, being there for someone else is deeply satisfying and energizing. I hope to see more women at DataArt join the program! #mentorship

Entering the professional world can be overwhelming, and it's easy to feel lost. That's why I believe having mentors throughout your career is crucial. They can provide guidance, whether you're exploring new roles or focusing on personal development. No matter where you are in your career, there are always people to look up to and opportunities to give back. I've been fortunate to be part of the Accelerate Her Future mentorship program, which has been a valuable experience. I want to give a shoutout to all the mentors and mentees I've had the privilege to connect with. Jagrati Valecha Setpal Jharna Deshmukh Disha Patel Anabelia Rocha Martinez Banu R. Aleena Mazhar Kuzma Andrea Alfaro Monishka Gautam ❤️ Our conversations have been powerful and inspiring. It's essential to have a space where women can share their thoughts without judgment. Research shows that women are often hesitant to advocate for themselves, and we need to change that narrative. I'll be sharing key learnings from my mentorship journey on this platform as I believe that everyone can benefit from these insights. 💫 #mentorship #personalbranding #womenempowerment

Peer to Peer Mentorship. As we celebrate International Women’s Day today, I’ll love to share on this subject: Peer to Peer mentorship, because I believe that investing in yourself to accelerate progress has a lot to do with the quality of people you constantly associate with. Peer-to-peer mentorship involves individuals within similar experience levels or skillsets coming together to learn, support, and share knowledge with each other. It focuses on mutual growth and collaboration rather than a traditional hierarchical mentor-mentee relationship. I’m one who is very big on friendships and value, and in my career and general life I love to associate with people who are constantly adding value to me and I to them. I got to find out about peer to peer mentorship concept few years and the fact that your mentors can people in your age grade, Infact it’s a very impactful kind of mentorship, and since then, I take my friendship with my peers very seriously, Infact my friends know that I push them too hard, cheer them up and do everything I can to ensure they succeed in life, just as they do for me. I have benefited greatly from mentorship with my peers, I recently got two gigs and referrals from my friends and I was surprised and elated at the same time of how these young people like myself can help me get better in life. Today ask yourself, who are my friends? They do constantly add value to me? Do I also add value to them, do I push them to achieve more? It’s a give and take situation, so if you’re looking for a peer mentor, you should also look to be a mentor to someone. It is not lonely at the top, you’re the one always working in silos. (There is a room for change😀). Here’s to great Women! May we know them! May we raise them!, MAY WE BE THEM. Do you have a peer mentor? Tag them and celebrate them today🎉💃🏽💃🏽💃🏽 Happy International Women’s Day💜 #internationalwomensday2024 #IWD2024 #PeerToPeerMentorship #Mentorship

Finding the Right Mentor: It’s Not Just About ANYONE; It’s About the RIGHT ONE When I first set out to find a mentor, I thought any successful person would do. But here’s the truth: finding the right mentor is like finding a great friend, it requires intention, clarity, and patience. If you’re considering mentorship, here are five steps that can help you connect with the perfect guide for your journey: 1. Know Exactly What You Need Before reaching out, take a moment to define the kind of support you’re seeking. Is it career advice, skill-building, or personal growth? Being clear about your goals will help you identify someone whose experience and values truly align with your journey. 2. Identify Someone Accessible and Aligned Sometimes, the right mentor is closer than you think; maybe in your organization, LinkedIn network, or even among past colleagues. Look for someone you genuinely admire, someone whose path resonates with your own goals. 3. Reach Out with Intention When you’re ready to approach them, make it personal. Instead of a generic message, explain why you’re reaching out specifically to them, and highlight how their work has inspired you. A thoughtful connection can set the foundation for a meaningful mentorship. 4. Bring Something to the Table Mentorship is a two-way relationship. Even if you’re less experienced, bring a spirit of gratitude and offer support where you can. Showing appreciation or even helping with small tasks can make a lasting impression. 5. Be Patient and Stay Consistent Not every connection will lead to mentorship and that’s okay. Allow relationships to grow naturally, giving trust the time it needs to flourish. Mentorship isn’t just about guidance; it’s about finding someone who aligns with your vision. With the right mentor, your journey can be transformed in ways you may never have imagined. Today I'm going to talk about mentorship! This is a picture of Jessica H. and me after a great conversation at Claddagh Coffee Shop in St. Paul. Jessica and I were connected through our mutual friend Valerie Blomberg. Jessica runs a private chef business and reached out to learn about the networks I use to connect with other women in the food industry. We ended up talking about all kinds of things: how to grow a business, how to validate your work as a founder, estimating the cost of hiring someone else to do it, conducting affordable market research, and most importantly, where to find mentorship and guidance. When we talked about mentorship, Jessica wondered about the best ways to approach potential mentors. The interesting thing about mentors is that those who offer their help are usually doing it because they received the same kindness earlier in their careers. Mentorship isn’t a waste of time – many of us see it as our responsibility to share our experiences and lessons because we benefited from others doing the same for us at key moments in our careers. Here are some important things to keep in mind when you ask someone for a coffee chat or to pick their brain: 1. Be clear about why you’re connecting – If you admire their work or want to learn how they developed their expertise, it helps them focus and gather useful resources for you. 2. Respect their time – Set a specific time frame for the meeting or call and stick to it. If you’re running over time, acknowledge it. If things are going well, ask if it’s okay to keep in touch. Showing respect for their time demonstrates that you value it and won’t take more than they’re willing to give. 3. Follow up with your mentors about your successes – At Taking Stock Foods, we have a newsletter for mentors that I ask permission to subscribe them to. I send out quarterly updates. It’s rewarding for people who have given their time and care about your success to see how you’re growing. 4. Be a mentor yourself – Join the cycle of generosity and help enrich the community. If you’re early in your journey, you might develop this skill by encouraging a friend's 5th grader or helping an elder with technology. As you progress in your career, remember to share resources, best practices, or lessons learned whenever possible. Jessica was a wonderful person to meet. It’s inspiring to talk with people who share similar experiences and learn from different generations. Together, we work towards greater goals. #mentorship

Today we wrapped up the Women in Cleantech and Sustainability 2024 mentorship program with a session just for mentors. Some takeaways that might surprise anyone who has benefited from a mentor: 🪻 These relationships are win-win. To a person, the mentors found their experience valuable. Some thought they got more out of it than the mentees! 🌻 "We need to show women we have to lift each other up," said one participant. Mentors were so grateful the emphasis these days is on lifting up other women, not tearing them down. There's room for everyone at the table--but that's not the message many of us got early in our careers. 💐 Mentors appreciated candid conversations with younger generations. Mentors might have much younger kids at home but may only hear from young professionals in the office, where conversations aren't always completely open. Insight from mentees helps mentors understand and support their own colleagues better. 🌹 Mentorship continues to pay dividends years down the road. Highly accomplished women decades into their career shared their continued disappointment that they didn't receive mentorship when they were younger. ✨ Takeaway: If you can--pay it forward! And if you're a mentee, know that your mentor is benefiting just as much from the relationship as you. ❔ What have you learned from past mentorship experiences? Share below! I can't say enough good things about the excellent program WCS and especially Leslie Bane Petry and Stefanie Padgett put together. Looking forward to 2025! #Mentoring #WomenEmpoweringWomen
