The application of this theory with my clients and my own journey has been a game changer.
Mayim Bialik’s Breakdown is a quirky, informative, and interactive podcast breaking down the myths and misunderstandings about mental health and emotional well-being. Neuroscientist Mayim Bialik combines her academic background with vast personal experience to provide listeners with valuable practical advice focusing on removing the stigma surrounding mental health and encouraging an understanding of the mind-body connection. In this week's episode, PVI's own Dr. Stephen Porges speaks with Mayim about what Polyvagal Theory is, how our nervous system responds to danger, and how polyvagal principles can be applied to daily life. “Overwhelm and focus cannot coexist in the brain." 🧠 When we're overwhelmed, our brains go into "fight or flight" mode. This heightened alertness makes it nearly impossible to focus. The amygdala, responsible for our emotional responses, hijacks our prefrontal cortex, which handles decision-making and focus. In simpler terms, overwhelm prioritizes survival over focus. Intentional rest and workload management can help combat this. 🌿 I recently sat down with Russel Lolacher on the "Relationships at Work" podcast to discuss the neuroscience of stress management and its impact on our work. We explored practical strategies to manage overwhelm and improve focus. Curious to learn more? The hidden costs of bullying - a neuroscientific perspective with Soraya Shaw MSc 🎙️”What may hurt somebody, or what somebody may find unacceptable, might not even bother me. We’re all very subjective in that way. Coming from a neuroscience point of view, it's the damage that we know that bullying does to the brain. 🧠 However it manifests itself, there is serious damage that’s actually going on. It’s not like you hurt your leg and you can see that it’s sore. When our brain is damaged, nobody else really sees it''. Full episode here: ➡️https://shorturl.at/4BZKR ➡️ https://lnkd.in/dxw23qcr
''What may hurt somebody, or what somebody may find unacceptable, might not even bother me. We’re all very subjective in that way. But I think coming from a neuroscience point of view, it's the damage that we know that it (bullying) does to the brain. However it manifests itself, however people experience it and whether they call it out or they don’t, there is really serious damage that’s actually going. It’s not like you hurt your leg and you can see that it’s sore. When our brain is damaged, nobody else really sees it.'' In the 13th episode of The Sustainable Human Podcast, host Linda Jarnhamn and Soraya Shaw MSc, talk about the hidden costs of bullying, exploring: - A neuroscientific perspective on the impact of bullying - The impact of bullying on business productivity and performance - The potential cultural context of mental resilience Full episode here: ➡️https://shorturl.at/4BZKR ➡️ https://lnkd.in/dxw23qcr #humansustainability #bullying #neuroscience #brain

Happy Friday! A quick read and thoughts for the weekend: "Maybe you can sit in an ice bath, but can you sit in the discomfort of your inner world? How long can you tolerate being present with the feelings you avoid or compartmentalize?" This is powerful stuff that applies not just to men, but everyone. A common phrase, "get comfortable being uncomfortable" is so important to remember in all aspects of our lives. Taking on more responsibility is uncomfortable, increasing your accountability is uncomfortable, pushing yourself beyond your mental and physical limits is uncomfortable. The more we do these uncomfortable things, the more we learn about ourselves and our capacity for personal growth. This measures our discipline, our commitment level, and exposes our strengths and weaknesses. Have a great weekend! #introspection #psychology #neuroscience #discipline #commitment #selfdiscovery #personalgrowth #personaldevelopment #lifestyle #mentalhealth #menshealth #mentalstrength #accountability #responsibility
