Curiosity is an unappreciated capability in your leaders, employees and teams. Laci Loew and I are definitely looking forward to sharing our thoughts on how recognizing and encouraging this capability can result in positive personal, professional and organizational impact.
Just a few weeks out from DevLearn and my colleagues Bob Mosher, Conrad Gottfredson and myself would love to connect with you during the event.
There are three great options for connecting:
1. Bob and Con are conducting a pre-conference Certificate program on Nov. 3-4th. Details about the program and how to register can be found here - https://lnkd.in/gnV6XHnn
2. We have two sessions during the main conference. The first is a formal session on Nov 7th at 3:15 on the topic of Beyond Competencies: Redefining Skills in the Era of Workflow Learning. The second is a Morning Buzz session with Bob on the 8th from 7:30-8:30. Session details for these are below.
3. Bob, Con and I are also happy to schedule some 121 time with you around the sessions. Feel free to check out our availability here - https://lnkd.in/gNJJwDAA

What great callouts from Robyn A. D. and mine's session at Cognota's LearnOps® Summit 2024!
In systems thinking, it’s not just about solving the immediate discomfort, but understanding the underlying issue that, left unchecked, can cascade downstream. This is where the Learning Operations Blueprint comes into play.
🔑 “Knowing in your gut does not stand up to a budget meeting.” Data and structure are everything. The blueprint I advocate for empowers L&D teams to step away from reactive order-taking and toward a proactive, data-driven approach that speaks the language of business. It positions L&D as a strategic partner, not an afterthought. See the link in the comments for the article.
🔑 “People will create more problems downstream by solving for the discomfort versus the problem.” L&D should focus on solving for the root issues rather than appeasing short-term pain points. This is where the right processes, like standardized project intake and needs analysis, make all the difference.
🔑 “In systems thinking, the customer is the business because the business creates the learner.” This reshapes how we design our learning strategies—by aligning them with business goals, we ultimately deliver more impactful and measurable outcomes.
We're all working in crazy complex organizational landscapes, systems thinking and learning operational blueprints give L&D teams the tools to run L&D like a business. It isn’t about checking boxes; it’s about creating lasting value.

Kudos to Cognota for making the LearnOps® Summit 2024 recordings available! 🎉 Just went through "Enhancing LearnOps with Systems Thinking" with Robyn Defelice and Tracy Cantu, packed with insights.
They answered essential questions like:
> How does systems thinking help L&D overcome isolation from the rest of the organization?
> How can it help L&D teams address dependencies and improve ROI?
> How can systems thinking help shift L&D’s focus from addressing discomfort to solving underlying problems?
> How can it provide quantifiable insights to demonstrate L&D strategic value beyond order taking?
This session is a must-watch for anyone wanting to align L&D with business objectives! #LearnOps#SystemsThinking#ContinuousLearning#BusinessImpacthttps://lnkd.in/e4UZN83w

Man, did Linkedin reduce the character count on posts or is the last #HubSpot Academy #RevOps Bootcamp cohort just super inquisitive? Part 3 of our questions from this week below:
Hugo de Schipper
If you have built out a current state process mapping, what signs would you look at to determine that you need to revisit the current state mapping? Or should this be covered in a certain development lifecycle?
➡Regularly #auditing and revisiting is the way to go. As you deploy new things, you should update the map accordingly, but as the business evolves and process changes you’re not privy to you will lose these updates. I think process mapping exercises should be done annually at a minimum, and probably quarterly in the highest level of frequency.
Bob Balm
Would you have layers of process maps, i.e. a high-level one, and then more detailed ones as you have the high-level one set in stone (at least for now)? Same with processes and subprocesses
➡You can absolutely have different layers! You can have nodes as simple as ‘lead assignment’ that drill down into complex supporting flows and further documentation. Often, #departments have processes that to others can just be a “black box” but to them have deep meaning. In the high level master document it’s perfectly acceptable to have these be a singular node and provide deeper supporting maps that break it down further.
Ezekiel Swanson
What's one tip you could give to get teams to adhere to documentation?
➡Follow Jen Bergren, MBA Bergen and take her documentation course!
This is it for recent Q&A from bootcamps but i'll be back next week with even more!
Highlight of my week: perfecting my waggle dance 🐝 (sorry Lee Arthur, I think I did it better!)
But jokes aside, After spending this week at DevLearn with Lee and Laura Keith, I've got to be brutally honest: too many companies are still missing the point about AI.
As I practiced my waggle dance in my inflatable 🐝 costume. Walking up and down the 5 long aisles at #DevLearn.
It was painful to see vendor after vendor touting their "revolutionary AI" - usually their same tools but now in overdrive.
But MORE content and MORE platforms for learners to navigate is literally the last thing learners need right now.
Here's the hard truth:
1. 🐝 AI's Real Value? It's Not Your Content Factory
We're drowning in content already, folks
The game-changer is using AI to rethink the entire approach to training and learning delivery. The days of 'one to many' are already gone.
If your AI isn't delivering faster feedback loops and measurable performance gains you're solving the wrong problem.
2. 🐝 Stop Playing AI Theatre
I'm tired of seeing AI positioned as a replacement for human expertise.
The magic happens when AI amplifies human coaching, not replaces it
The best implementations I saw at DevLearn were making human coaches superhuman, not obsolete
3. 🐝 Time to Revolutionize, Not Digitize
Traditional hit and hope training is dead
The future is real-time, personalized performance support
If your solution isn't capturing tacit knowledge and enabling in-the-moment application you're already behind
The real revolution is in transforming how people perform, learn, and improve in the flow of work - especially revenue teams where every minute of improved performance translates to real business impact.
Maybe 15% of vendors at DevLearn were demonstrating a move to this type of application of AI. But 80%+ of the attendees I spoke to were looking for it.
I had some really innovative - boundary stretching conversations. The majority of people who got the vision for AI and are not happy with "adequate"
I've come away with a renewed excitement for the next 6 months. And for what this means for the existing products and our roadmap at Hive Perform while we continue on the journey to redefining what Performance Enablement means with our customers. 'Adequate' is never enough at Hive Perform#DevLearn2024#HivePerform#SalesPerformance
DevLearn, you've (bee)n amazing!
The Hive Perform team Anna Peggram, Laura Keith and Lee Arthur had an amazing time learning from and connecting with you all.
Some highlights:
Laura Keith's speaker session, where she answered the question 'is sales enablement an L&D problem?'
Hearing all about your L&D and Sales priorities and challenges for 2024 & 2025
And of course, Anna Peggram and Lee Arthur rocking the Hive Perform bee costume!
Until next year 👋
