A recent Stanford Cyber Policy Center report, "Regulating Under Uncertainty: Governance Options for Generative AI,” analyzes global AI regulations to draw common themes and lessons for policymakers and industry experts on what is being done to manage AI’s potential and actual risks. The report is among few studies to distill the worldwide AI policy conversation into one thorough and complete document. Stanford and industry experts discussed the report at an event on Oct. 28, “A Conversation: Governance Options for Generative AI.” Panelists included Nathaniel Persily, Stanford law professor and co-director of the Stanford Cyber Policy Center. Today at AISS the morning session was led by Securonix. The discussion highlighted the evolving cybersecurity challenges, emphasizing the expanding attack surface and the increasing pressure on CISOs due to regulatory and legal requirements. Specific issues include data normalization, particularly in OT systems, where traditional security measures are immature. AI and machine learning are seen as solutions for automating data parsing and anomaly detection. Concerns about quantum computing's impact on cybersecurity were raised, with predictions of significant changes in digital security.
