The assessment of potential CO2 storage volumes in Late Miocene reservoir was completed in the Algarve sedimentary basin, offshore Portugal . The two technical teams have cooperated through several multidisciplinary studies in order to develop a comprehensive workflow that allows the best understanding of volumes and fluid phase of injected CO2. Given the scarcity of geotechnical data, an adequate assessment of uncertainty is key to reflect the potential upsides and downsides in terms of available injection capacity and therefore properly dimension a development plan that can be a reliable input for national strategic plans.

Exploring Pre-Salt Reservoirs: Insights from Petrobras 🌍We recently had the pleasure of hosting Rodrigo Surmas from Petrobras, who delivered an engaging lecture titled “SCAL and DRP Applications in Petrobras.” The session provided valuable insights into the challenges and advancements Petrobras has made in developing pre-salt carbonate reservoir fields—a critical area for both oil recovery and carbon capture. 🛢️ Rodrigo shared Petrobras’ perspective on addressing key challenges, including rapid RCAL and SCAL characterization, understanding relative permeability curves under laboratory and reservoir boundary conditions, and upscaling these properties to reservoir scale. These challenges are particularly significant for fields with CO2-rich reservoirs, where oil recovery efforts and carbon management strategies intersect. 👏 We are grateful to Rodrigo for sharing his expertise and offering a closer look at the innovative approaches Petrobras has taken to overcome complex reservoir challenges. New SPE paper SPE-218465-MS with Lime Petroleum AS! How integrated modeling with #tNavigator helps to understand HPHT field in the Norwegian Sea.
We are pleased to announce the publication of our co-authored paper presented at the SPE Norway Subsurface Conference, in collaboration with James Mullins. The paper, titled "Full-Field Integrated Asset Modelling of a Gas Condensate HPHT Asset in the Norwegian Sea: Evaluation of Development Strategies for Maximizing Gas Recovery Factor," describes an analysis using a DST matching fit-for-purpose description to assess various development strategies. These strategies are designed to optimize gas recovery within a complex geological architecture and HPHT environment. The paper is now accessible for reference under the identification number SPE-218465-MS on OnePetro. We would like to extend our gratitude to Lime Petroleum AS for the opportunity to contribute to this study. Special thanks to Bjorn A. Berntsen Dimitri Rocher, Luka Bajan, Adam Spitzmüller, our colleagues at Rock Flow Dynamics and SPE London Section

Join us at ATCE 2024 for two paper presentations during the technical session this week. Monday, September 23, 4:35-5:00 PM, Room 215 – 216: Drilling Fluid Design for Safe, Efficient Resource Delineation in XHT Geothermal Reservoirs A paper by Mohammed BaGeri, Ph.D. and Alessandro Cascone from Newpark, will be presented by Travis Vordick on cutting-edge drilling fluids designed for Enhanced Heat Transfer (XHT) conditions in geothermal reservoirs. Discover innovative formulations that enhance geothermal drilling efficiency, prevent fluid loss, and maintain viscosity and stability up to 800°F - significantly outperforming traditional fluids, which typically degrade at 400°F. In this session, you will see the results from laboratory tests and field trials in Iceland and Italy, which demonstrate significant advances with these fluids. This includes a Geothermal Specific Fluid (GSF) system that maintained superior viscosity and stability after aging at 706°F. We hope you can join us to learn more about the fluid innovations we are delivering to drive performance and sustainability in hydrocarbon and geothermal drilling operations. #newpark #newparkserviceadvantage #drilling #drillingfluids #drillingengineering #geothermal #energytransition #efficiency #performance #environmentalcompliance #atce2024 #sustainability #unconvential #wbm

There has been a recent string of announcements of smaller companies been awarded producing acreages. Typically, larger operators will exit an acreage as most of the NPV is realized at the end of the production plateau stage. (Picture: case study of a gas field changing hand, generated with Lnomics GeomodL International proprietary economics screening tool) Acreages change hands to smaller operators who inherit cash flow generating assets with surface facilities and wells already present. The name of the game is to arrest and why not reversing natural production decline for the smartest. One of the issues is with the abandonment cost (ABEX) which can literally bites you hard at the end of field life… …unless you throw the “hot potato” to someone else …or you convert the asset to CCS Geomodelly yours!

Please Join Abdelrafae El Hamday "Abdu" at the following #MOC to share our findings in the paper titled: "Optimizing Field Development in Data-Starved Reservoirs: Mitigating Economic Risks Through Stochastic Production Profiling and Fully Implicit Static-Dynamic Simulation"
Excited to present our latest workflow at the 2024 Mediterranean Offshore Conference #MOC! Our paper, “Optimizing Field Development in Data-Starved Reservoirs: Mitigating Economic Risks Through Stochastic Production Profiling and Fully Implicit Static-Dynamic Simulation” introduces an innovative approach to tackling the complexities of reservoir development when data is scarce. In this workflow, we account for a range of uncertainties, including fault positions, horizon depths, porosity-permeability variations, and critical fluid properties such as viscosity and formation volume factor. We also consider the uncertainty of water-oil contact, along with variations in geological structures and the distribution of rock types. After conducting 500 initial simulations, we identified 18 #ensemble_models that closely match the oil in place. From there, we based our analysis on pre-planned well locations while optimizing the injection and production controls. This process culminated in nearly 1,200 simulation runs, allowing us to evaluate potential recovery rates, ranging from 19% to 23%, while carefully managing these risks. I’m excited to present these findings on October 21, showing how this advanced workflow can enhance decision-making and reduce risks in challenging reservoir environments! Brazil Expands Pre-Salt Offering to 21 Blocks and Sets Bid Round Date The National Energy Policy Council (CNPE) has approved the inclusion of seven additional pre-salt blocks — Cerussita, Aragonita, Rodocrosita, Malaquita, Opala, Quartzo and Calcedônia—in the Brazilian National Petroleum Agency's (ANP) Permanent Offer Program. These highly prospective blocks, located within the Santos Basin's pre-salt polygon and include prospective targets both in the pre-and post-salt sections. These blocks will be auctioned under the Production Sharing Regime (OPP) in June 2025. The ANP previously announced a bid round featuring 14 blocks in the Campos and Santos basins, to be offered under the Production Sharing Regime. These included the Citrino, Itaimbezinho, Jaspe, Larimar, Onix, and Turmalina areas in Campos, as well as the Agata, Amazonita, Ametista, Esmeralda, Jade, Mogno, Safira Leste and Safira Oeste areas in Santos. TGS provides 3D seismic coverage across the 21 blocks within the pre-salt polygon. These high-quality datasets offer exceptional regional continuity, illuminating pre-salt targets and delivering vital insights to unlock the full potential of these blocks. Don’t wait—start preparing for the Third Cycle Bid Round now!
