Seven key recommendations emerged from the #stakehoderworkshop on #CircularEconomy and #Sustainability in the #Construction Sector organized by Institute for Renewable Energy – Eurac Research in October 2024: 1. Establish a Provincial Circular Economy (CE) Task Force in the Construction Sector. 2. Use the Public Administration as a Virtuous Model for CE. 3. Adopt Local Policies to Support the Expansion of CE, Promoting Material Reuse and Penalizing the Use of Raw Materials. 4. Develop New Skills and Training Opportunities for Construction Professionals 5. Encourage a New Culture and Perception of Second-Hand Materials through Campaigns, Events, and Urban Upcycling Workshop. 6. Promote the Creation of Urban Mining Spaces to Facilitate the Practical Reuse of Materials and Construction Component. 7. Create New Certifications for Circular Buildings/Components and Circular Building Passports. “You reap what you sow!” Taking great strides towards the Sustainable Development Goals set out in the UN's 2030 Agenda, Circularity in Construction is a topic to keep on the table, to cultivate in the field, and to disseminate among all stakeholders in the sector. With this mission, we were invited to join the Round Table at the “Circularity in Construction in Lisbon” event, which took place on 16th May, where principles of circularity, best practices, opportunities, and barriers to their implementation in the AEC sector (Architecture, Engineering, and Construction) were discussed. Among the topics, particular emphasis was given to EcoPaving solutions in which PRAGOSA has been a pioneer in Portugal. Specifically, Cold Recycling with Foam Bitumen, which enables the total recycling of asphalt layers in road rehabilitation. The 4th General Assembly of the AEGIR Project is behind us! 🌳🏡  On 11-12 of June, the discussions and workshops presented numerous technical solutions and facilitated exchanges between different stakeholders, ranging from local businesses to policymakers and citizens. Duratec’s Environment and Sustainability Lead Samantha Bell recently attended the Net Zero Construction Summit in Sydney. This conference provided a forum for designers, contractors and sustainability professionals alike to collaborate and discuss how the construction industry can achieve Net Zero. The conference was of great value for Duratec, allowing our team to gain insight into strategies, technologies and materials that reduce the impact on the environment, whilst also understanding how this differs from our biodiversity footprint. We're proud to announce the launch of the TEPLO project! ReThink, Neo-Eco, MATEK AS, and Ro3kvit: Urban Coalition for Ukraine have launched a pioneering initiative dedicated to renovating a Soviet-era residential building in the #Chernihiv region in #Ukraine, using prefabricated #biobased panels. The project is supported by the EU LIFE Programme, contributing to the EU's mission to achieve climate neutrality by 2050. Our Rationale Energy inefficiency: Upgrading an outdated structure with prefabricated bio-based panels to maximize energy savings and resident well-being. Circular construction: Showcasing the potential of prefabrication and bio-based materials like straw insulation and recycled wood for a sustainable future.  Community empowerment: Interactive workshops to promote knowledge exchange and resident participation in the renovation process. This project aims to showcase the untapped potential of prefabrication and bio-based materials, such as straw and recycled wood, in #Ukraine. In addition, we aspire to equip architects, engineers, and homeowner associations (OSBB) with the knowledge and tools necessary to lead the charge toward circular renovations, fostering a sustainable and energy-efficient future. Did you know that the construction industry is responsible for 1/3 of all material and energy use? The industry has developed a number of great new circular solutions, but now is the time to scale up. ➖ Projects that aim to implement circularity in the markets, are an important part of Natural State's portfolio. Recently, Natural State became the project manager of a new Nordic Circular Hotspot project, called Nordic Circular Construction, funded by Nordic Innovation. ➖ This is a re-trade programme for critical construction materials
and solutions, with the purpose to support companies in the Nordics with circular solutions in the construction sector, to realize their Nordic market potential. ➖ The project builds on the work done by the transition group for circular construction in Nordic Circular Hotspot. This group identified the upscaling of circular solutions as key to reach the tipping point, where circular solutions are the norm rather than the exception. ➖ The project is based on the assumption that its easier for companies to scale up in the Nordics, than in other parts of the world. This feeds into the Nordic goal of establishing the Nordic region as the most sustainable and integrated in the world, by 2030.
