We’re thrilled to team up with The Brown Collective to bring our School Leaders and the Law professional learning program to education leaders in the Northern Territory in February 2025. After successful programs in Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane this year, we’re proud to partner with The Brown Collective, Association of Independent Schools Northern Territory (AISNT) and Catholic Education Northern Territory (CENT) to support education professionals in this region. This program addresses key areas of professional support for those working in schools and the broader education sector. We’re excited to extend our reach across Australia and empower school leaders with the tools and insights they need to navigate legal challenges with confidence.

💫N E W B L O G 💫 from Rebecca Lewis-Pankratz "As we navigate the journey of constructing resilience-oriented schools, we frequently grapple with the challenge of cultivating strong relationships with both struggling students and struggling staff, while also determining effective disciplinary methods that yield desired outcomes. Many schools find themselves on a path leading toward restorative practices and approaches. Our team has been diligently working on a framework that specifically addresses the aforementioned challenges, empowering staff to act as change-makers and undertake the demanding task of serving our most challenging students. Given the prevalent challenging behaviors in our schools, a balance of strong relationships and high accountability becomes imperative." Read more: https://lnkd.in/gm-MwVCc

🌟 Principle 3: The Matter of Law for Learners and Leaders 🌟 The complexity of law often means that even our politicians and legal experts can’t grasp it fully. But amidst this, one truth stands firm: parents are responsible for raising their children, including their education, and choosing the support needed for that journey. No Australian constitution—be it Commonwealth, state, or territory—includes education or schooling. That's the strength behind Parents Leading Learning™. Upholding your role as a parent isn’t just a right; it’s a duty carried with dignity and pride. Please don't feel like you need to apologise for asserting this or making sure schools and service providers respect your role. Schools are, after all, a community of families united in learning and teaching. First Principles on Education offers a framework where everyone benefits - parents, learners, and school education leaders. Let’s honour that duty with confidence. 💪 #Education #Leadership #FirstPrinciples #ParentsLeadingLearning

The five guiding principles that steer our work at Brown's Promise ⚖️ 1️⃣ Listening to Those Most Impacted: We prioritize the voices of students, families, and community members who are directly affected by educational inequities. 2️⃣ Focusing on Educator and Student Diversity: True integration involves a diverse group of educators as well as students. 3️⃣ Centering the Student Experience: Our efforts go beyond mere numbers, ensuring that all students receive a deeply enriching and inclusive educational experience. 4️⃣ Avoiding Unintended Consequences: We strive to prevent actions that inadvertently harm districts serving marginalized communities. 5️⃣ State Accountability: Upholding the state's duty to ensure equitable education for all, avoiding the pitfalls of excessive localism that can sideline broader rights and needs. These principles guide our advocacy and policy work, while we aim to create an educational landscape where equity is not just an ideal, but a reality.

Join the New England Literacy Resource Center on May 8 at 1 PM ET to participate in a VERA Voting Ambassadors workshop. Participants will use contextualized content and materials to guide and empower students. Students will develop leadership skills and strengthen civics knowledge, and learn more about Voter Education, Registration, and Action. Learn more about the VERA campaign at nelrc.org/vera and register for the webinar at bit.ly/NELRC-5-8-24 I had the opportunity of participating in an NELRC workshop at COABE last month. The experience was impactful. Not only was I given an opportunity to experience what an adult learner experience may experience the learning environment, but I also experienced what it may have been like to live in a period of time when "fighting for the right to vote" was the top priority. NELRC knows how to provide contextualized, experiential learning opportunities to the classroom. Consider joining NELRC on May 8th at 1 PM ET to learn how creating a team of Voting Ambassadors can empower students.

The journey toward desegregation in the United States is marked by significant milestones, each representing a step forward in the long fight for civil rights and equality. From the landmark 1954 Brown v. Board of Education decision, which declared state laws establishing separate public schools for black and white students to be unconstitutional, to the subsequent efforts to enforce and realize the promise of desegregation across the nation. Here are some pivotal moments in the timeline of desegregation: 1954: Brown v. Board of Education Supreme Court decision 1957: Integration of Little Rock Central High School 1960: New Orleans school desegregation 1964: Civil Rights Act passed These moments, among many others, highlight the progress made and the challenges that persist in achieving true educational equity. Let's honor the courage of those who fought for desegregation and continue to work towards a fully inclusive education system.
