Calling all creators! Big news just dropped from Instagram, and it's all about elevating your original content and giving smaller accounts a chance to shine. Here's the lowdown on the latest algorithm update: Original content takes center stage: Move over, reposts! The algorithm will now favor content you've created yourself, incentivizing fresh ideas and unique perspectives. Leveling the playing field: Instagram is now putting more emphasis on engagement, meaning the quality of your interactions with your audience matters more than just your follower count. This update creates a fairer chance for smaller creators like you to gain traction. Aggregator accounts take a backseat: Accounts that primarily repost content from others will see a decrease in their visibility. Credit where credit's due: When someone reposts your work, you'll get a label crediting you as the original creator. This update is a game-changer for creators who pour their heart and soul into original content. It's time to unleash your creativity, experiment with new formats, and share your unique voice with the world. The vertical video bandwagon rolls on, and on, and on… 📽️ Facebook is in the process of rolling out a new full-screen video player that aligns with the popular vertical video format, similar to TikTok, to boost user engagement on its platform. This update means all videos, whether quick clips, full-length stories, or live streams, will now appear in a consistent vertical format. It's a move that mimics Instagram's shift to Reels in 2022, making videos easier to watch by reducing the clutter of different formats and controls 🙋♂️. Facebook has also revamped how it recommends videos, tuning its algorithm to better match videos with user interests. For example, someone who likes DIY projects might start seeing more home improvement videos, further cementing watch time-style KPIs for organic success 📈. For marketers, this update signals a shift towards shorter, snappier content formats like Reels. Facebook suggests that engaging content will perform well no matter the length, but there's a clear nudge towards quick, engaging styles that work well on TikTok. This update isn't just about a new look; it's about making content that fits what Facebook users want to see, encouraging brands to think creatively about how they make and adapt videos for the platform 🤔. With this rollout currently in the U.S. and Canada and set to go global later, Facebook is clearly betting big on the future of vertical video, signalling a major shift in how businesses create video in 2024. For the full lowdown, check out SMK for more detail 👇 ------------------- What's your take? ------------------- - Are you all in on vertical video? - Do you post Facebook Reels or just on Insta? - Have you seen a bounce in Facebook organic reach via Reels?

Will this new feature actually be used? Posting content BUT not having it on your page. This week, Instagram has been running global tests for their new “Trial Reels” feature. The feature allows creators to explore different types of content or be more creative by publishing reels that DO NOT appear to their followers. After using the feature, the creator will still be able to obtain the reel’s performance metrics, including plays, likes, comments, and shares. This is important information for creators to see if their new creative concept works. Essentially, it’s like an experiment mode, a testing feature. As always, these new features are shared with a select few creators for testing before an official launch is made. Keep your eyes peeled 👀

Heads up, marketers and creatives! 📢 Instagram is rolling out a significant algorithm update to amplify original content and empower emerging creators. Here's the scoop: ✨ Key Changes to Expect: Boosting Original Content: The new algorithm will favor posts by the creators themselves over reposts, ensuring original ideas gain more traction. Removing Aggregator Accounts: Recommendations will phase out content from aggregator accounts, ensuring users see authentic material. Labelling Reposts: Reposts will be clearly labelled, making it easier to distinguish between fresh and previously shared content. Small Creators Get a Boost: Smaller creators will gain more exposure in recommendations, helping them grow their audience. AI-Powered Recommendations: About 50% of the content users see on Instagram is driven by AI recommendations, a figure that may rise as this update unfolds. 💪 Benefits: Platform Improvement: Keeps users engaged with a richer variety of original content, increasing platform stickiness. Creator Reach: Original creators receive broader distribution, making it easier to build and retain their audience. 📈 Takeaway for Brands: This change means that crafting unique, compelling content is more crucial than ever. If you're in the NDIS, renewable energy, or broader marketing space, it's time to rethink your Instagram strategy. Lean into creativity, engage directly with emerging creators, and focus on delivering original value to stand out in feeds.

📢 NEW! Instagram's Feed Algorithm Promotes Original and Up-and-Coming Creators Keeping up with all the algorithm modifications can be challenging, and it's a love-hate relationship. Thankfully, rather than favoring reposters, this new upgrade prioritizes creators and boosting original content. This is a part of Meta's bigger strategy to boost its creative scene and is intended to give lesser accounts more prominence. This update focuses on four main areas: 1. Accounts with Unoriginal Content Are No Longer Recommended Instagram is removing recommendations for accounts posting unoriginal content ten or more times a month, aiming to improve content quality and user experience, and allowing accounts to regain recommendations after 30 days. 2. Adding labels to reposted content Instagram's update aims to boost original content creators by directing more traffic to their posts, ensuring proper credit and engagement. This approach benefits creators by promoting small creators and helping push their accounts, rather than promoting popular accounts. 3. Swapping out reposts for original content in recommendations. Instagram now prioritizes original content over reposts in recommendations, encouraging users to share their own content. However, reposts that significantly alter original content, such as memes or parodies, may still be recommended. This change applies mainly to new original content. 4. Pushing smaller creators content Instagram is shifting its focus from highlighting top-performing content to promoting original content, potentially benefiting smaller accounts but also posing risks to the user experience. Despite this, a successful balance could significantly impact Instagram's user experience. Since this is only getting started, it will be introduced gradually so as not to startle anyone. If this is successful, it could improve user experience by displaying material that users want to see, even if it isn't widely shared. Personally, I'm thrilled to see the trend away from viral material and the ongoing emphasis on unique content. #instagram #socialmedia #marketing #update #originalcontentandcreators
