The British public contributed £1.2 billion more to charities last year than in 2022, raising the total donations to an impressive £13.9 billion. This significant increase, achieved amidst notable household financial pressures, showcases the UK’s generosity. However, our latest #UKGivingReport also casts light on pressing challenges: ♦️ There are fewer people regularly donating to charity compared to before the pandemic. ♦️ The real value of the typical charity donation is being outstripped by inflation. ♦️ The growth in the total donation amount is down to fewer individuals giving higher amounts, rather than an increase in participation. The 2024 #UKGivingReport from Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) estimates that the UK public donated £13.9B to charity last year—up £1.2B from 2022—as part of its mapping of generosity across the country. CAF also estimates that the UK has around 1M “Super Givers” who support charities in every one of these five ways: donating, giving goods, sponsoring, volunteering, and fundraising. Each year we see the impact that Amala makes in secondary education for young people impacted by situations of displacement. There are 4 key reasons for this: * The Global Secondary Diploma allows young people, regardless of age, to continue their education and pursue their dreams. * Accredited by CIS (Council of International Schools) and NEASC (New England Association of Schools and Colleges), this programme equips students with a recognized qualification, giving them access to better opportunities. * Alongside standard courses, the Amala program offers a wide selection of electives, independent-projects and opportunities to apply learning to practical scenarios * Delivered by local educators, in community-based settings, many of whom are alumni, ensuring that the learning is relevant and context-specific. Graduates go on to do big things, whether that is studying locally, getting scholarships to study nationally or internationally, or setting up their own businesses and social enterprises. This week, from today, Tuesday 3rd December, any donation to Amala will be doubled Every donation - big or small - during the one week of the campaign, will be MATCHED 100%, with the aim of funding 200 young forcibly displaced people in Jordan and Kenya to access transformative education. 💙 If you can and want to, be ready to donate when the campaign goes live at midday (GMT) on Tuesday 3 December - or at any time during the campaign week. 📊 Despite a decrease in the number of donors, Q1 2024 saw a 60% average increase in the total dollar amount donated compared to Q1 2023. GiveOUT Day is Australia’s annual day of giving to LGBTQIA+ not-for-profits and initiatives, designed to address the shortfall in funding to our beloved and much needed community sector. NEW: Rising unaffordability is contributing to the donor drop in Canada. But new data suggests there's another key culprit: declining social connectedness. In 2023, 84% of people with 7-10 close friends reported making a donation on CanadaHelps' giving platform. The same was true for just 53% of people with 0 or 1 close friend.
