When the #healthcare system feels like it’s at breaking point—what can we do? Earlier this week, my eldest son suffered an audible head injury that led us to a busy #EmergencyDepartment, well into the early hours of the morning. After waiting seven hours, we were told there would be at least three more hours before he could be seen. Frustrated, tired, and hungry, we decided to take him home. As #RegisteredNurses, my husband and I knew we could manage his symptoms overnight and seek follow-up care the next day. But it left me thinking—what if we didn’t have that knowledge? Would we have left? The next morning, our amazing local #GP clinic fit us in for an early review, confirming mild concussion and whiplash. Thankfully, we were able to manage his care from there. While I understand the immense strain on our emergency departments, the experience left me wondering 🤔 •What happens to families who don’t know where to turn? •What about those who rely solely on the ED for care? •How many others leave, feeling helpless, without the knowledge or resources to seek alternative support? This isn’t a “point the finger” post—it’s an acknowledgment of the challenges in our system. But it’s also a call for change. We must do better. How? I’ll be honest - I don’t have all the answers. But as #healthcare #professionals, #policymakers, and members of the #community, we need to come together to find them. What are your thoughts? How do we ensure better outcomes for all, regardless of their circumstances?

When you hear the word “hospice”, what do you think of? Serious question here, comment with your answer. I can think of so many positive words, but I still hear people associate negative words when discussing hospice care. This causes a delay in end of life planning and care. How do we “flip the script” and the mindset surrounding the word “hospice”? My wish this holiday season is that we start discussing quality of care with our families and patients. This conversation would include conversations about advanced care planning and end of life wishes. #hospice #endoflifecare #quality
