Haletale Hacks: How Using Educational Platforms and Interns Supports Our Growth🚀 Running a startup or small business? Feeling really busy? We get it! At Haletale, we've had to manage a lot of tasks while missing the extra helping hands required for progressing projects. Luckily we work with educational platforms like Riipen to find bright interns with new technological skills and creative thinking. They have contributed to feature development, UI/UX design, and other areas of tech. However, it went beyond technology! They also assisted with bookkeeping, social media marketing, and even cold-calling. In addition to only their abilities, interns offer more. They bring energy, the desire to learn, and different points of view. On top of that, because these educational platforms pay interns, we can hire excellent interns without having to spend a lot of funding due to their support structures while also having the ability to work on our mentorship skills. It also means that more students with diverse backgrounds will and have been able to work with us!. 𝐁𝐨𝐨𝐤 𝐑𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐞𝐰 - 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐀𝐠𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐭 𝐋𝐮𝐜𝐤 Recently I concluded reading book “𝑪𝒐𝒎𝒑𝒆𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑨𝒈𝒂𝒊𝒏𝒔𝒕 𝑳𝒖𝒄𝒌” by 𝗖𝗹𝗮𝘆𝘁𝗼𝗻 𝗖𝗵𝗿𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗲𝗻. According to me, it’s one of the best books to read for product managers, entrepreneurs, UI/UX designers and strategy makers. The book has introduced and explained theory of “𝑱𝒐𝒃𝒔 𝒕𝒐 𝒃𝒆 𝒅𝒐𝒏𝒆” and how it can be applied to understand a task that a particular customer is trying to accomplish with your product in a specific circumstance. Author has also ensured to shed light on how to define a job, a circumstance, and in what ways one should look for jobs with their product in perspective. One of the best insights for me was to learn that when we’re working to solve a problem, we need to think about “𝙒𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙙𝙪𝙘𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙘𝙪𝙨𝙩𝙤𝙢𝙚𝙧 𝙝𝙖𝙨 𝙩𝙤 𝙗𝙚 𝙛𝙞𝙧𝙚, 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩’𝙡𝙡 𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙪𝙡𝙩 𝙞𝙣 𝙜𝙚𝙩𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙙𝙪𝙘𝙩 𝙝𝙞𝙧𝙚𝙙”. 🎉 Milestone Moment: Applied to 50 Companies! 🎉 Today’s a big day—I’ve just hit the 50-application mark in my job search!(for internship ) Here’s the scoop on how it’s been going: 📞 7 Interview Calls: Each one has been a learning curve, and I’m getting better at showing what I can bring to the table. 📝 5 Assignments: I’ve tackled 5 assignments so far. got one sweet feedback, but the rest were ghosters. Oh well, life goes on! 👻 📄 1 Offer Letter: I got an offer and, after some thought, decided to pass on it. I do regret that a bit, but every step teaches me something new. 😂 Biggest surprise? Introduction videos! Who knew that was a thing? First one? Easily 10-15 drafts. By the third company, I was knocking them out in 2-3 takes. Progress! 🎥 🔄 Learning Every Day: This whole process is a wild ride, but I’m picking up new skills and insights every day. Keep going, everyone—success is a marathon, not a sprint! I got an interview at a design-first company! I still can't believe I landed an interview at [Asana]! About two months ago, I was thrilled to be reached out to by them for their Product Design Internship interview. While I can't reveal specifics about the process, I reached the final round of the process. Even though the ultimate result wasn't what I'd hoped for, it was an incredibly educational experience. There's so much you learn from just interviewing at a design-focused company that you just can't get from textbooks. Asana's process spanned several weeks and included multiple rounds reaching the final one. Their thoughtful and personalized approach is exactly what I expect from a design-first company – empathy for everyone involved, even the candidates. Instead of a generic rejection email, they sent a thoughtful note with specific feedback on my strengths and areas for improvement. This internship season as an international student, I gave several interviews, and I'm excited to announce that I landed an internship at a company that prioritizes design and UX! Summer is already around the corner which means it’s almost internship season! Having valuable experience on your resume is crucial for landing great jobs post-graduation, especially in UXR these days. Here are my top tips for landing those coveted internships and boosting your resume/portfolio while you’re at it: ✅ Networking is Key: Connect with professionals in the field through LinkedIn, industry events, and local meetups. Don't hesitate to reach out for informational interviews or mentorship opportunities (make sure to ask nicely and name your specific goals!) ✅ Build Your Skills: Invest time in honing your research skills by taking online courses, attending workshops, and staying up to date on industry trends. Demonstrating your commitment to continuous learning will impress potential employers. ✅ Create Your Own Projects: Don't wait for opportunities to come to you—create them yourself! Develop your own UX research projects on topics that interest you. Whether it's redesigning a website or conducting a usability study on a mobile app you use a lot, this showcases your initiative and creativity. ✅ Document Your Process: Keep a detailed record of your research process, from problem definition to final insights. This documentation will not only help you refine your skills but also serve as valuable portfolio pieces. ✅ Collaborate with Others: Seek out collaborations with designers, developers, and other professionals to gain interdisciplinary experience. After months of insane preparation and countless interviews, I am thrilled to announce that I have secured a UX Research Apprenticeship with Tech Fleet X Baddies in Tech! This opportunity means the world to me, and I am beyond grateful for the support of my family, friends, and mentors who have been cheering me on every step of the way. The journey was nowhere close to easy. As someone who wasn’t mentally prepared for how tasking the job search experience can be, I was taken by surprise, for sure. I spent everyday applying to internships, meeting with amazing connections via LinkedIn, shifting through a sea of job scams, and being burnt out in the end. Joining forces with the amazing teams at Tech Fleet and Baddies in Tech is a dream come true. I will be helping with conducting user interviews, usability tests, user personas, prototype tests, market/competitor research, audience demographics research, and so much more! I feel so blessed and so excited to dive into this new chapter, contribute to client focused projects, and continue growing alongside professionals in the UX space! To anyone out there still on the hunt, I'd advise for you to work smarter, not harder. You can send out 200 applications, but if it doesn't meet the qualifications they're looking for, you'll be stuck with the same results: rejections. Keep pushing forward, don’t focus on what everyone else is doing, and connect with people to learn, not only to gain. Hi LinkedIn! A new week is upon us, right?! I know that the start of a new week comes with a lot of emotions for many, especially Mondays 😄 Is it same for you? I wanted to share that I am currently in my internship stage at Enoverlab, where I'd be gaining hands-on experience and practical applications to all that I've learnt in Product Management. Myself as a Product manager, along with my team consisting of other product managers, UI/UX designers, and developers, have been tasked with the responsibility of coming up wirh an MVP. This MVP is in the EdTech niche. Schools need an efficient system to manage student records and improve overall administration to streamline operations and enhance educational outcomes. We are working on a digital ID system (website) that will help solve this problem. In this internship, I'm also standing as the Product Team Leader, working with the team and guiding the team towards the best direction of success for the product. I'm particularly excited to see how this unfolds, as I get to apply all that I've learnt and still learning, and also get to work with a team to come up with a live product. I saw many people applying for internships without looking at the internship description. If you are applying for a design intern position, we expect you to send a Figma link, not a GitHub link. People are just bluffing, applying for internships without knowing what career they want. Some people say they applied by mistake, and some say they have to check if their time slot is available for the interview. How can we expect these kinds of people to be serious? It seems like the market is full of confused, uncommitted people who don't even know what they want from these internships. People are applying from various backgrounds just to join any available company.
