Comate Engineering & Design’s Post

What’s up at our COMPAMED booth? Michiel Stiers explains the story of the unmet medical need to scale ventilator capacity and how to manage it. The team behind the project gathered at our booth at COMPAMED to showcase how this KU Leuven research evolved into a hardware product that can increase our preparedness and save lives. Haven’t heard of Individualized Shared Ventilation (ISV) yet? Here’s the story: Born from an urgent need during the COVID-19 crisis and first tested at Ziekenhuis Geel, ISV enables individualized airflow for two patients on a single ventilator. The core of this technology is the ‘Flow Modulator’, a hardware component ensuring safe, effective dual support. ISV is a product of true co-creation, combining emergency healthcare expertise from Prof. Dr. Marc Sabbe and his team at KU Leuven and UZ Leuven, airflow insights from Royal Military Academy, Belgium, software support by CODEVID, and hardware development and scalability expertise by our engineers and designers at Comate Engineering & Design. Remember, whatever starts in the Leuven innovation region always goes far beyond. If you’re at COMPAMED, drop by our booth – we’d love to talk about how we can bring your hardware ideas to market.
