What can you do beyond “thank you for your service?” 1. Pay attention to critical bills and push Congress to support the veterans and active duty soldiers who Congress sent to war. If you send them to fight, you’ve gotta take care of them afterwards. 2. Support organizations that help our veterans. I’m a big fan of Stop Soldier Suicide - an organization working to identify at risk veterans and to connect them to peers and mental health professionals. 3. Check in on friends and colleagues who served. 4. “Thank you for your service” is okay - especially when it is backed up with action. 5. On a final note, talk to kids so they understand civic duty.
