We are witnessing the end of B2C customer loyalty. This might be a bit too strong, but the data seems to signal the demise of the traditional retail loyalty program. 💸 In 2023, the percentage of US consumers who said they were loyalty to at least one brand declined by more than 10%. ✋ Marquee brands have reportedly tried to boost the ROI of their programs by decreasing the monetary value tied to loyalty behaviors, even as customers report that the number 1 reason they leave a loyalty program is because the #rewards aren't worth it. 📱 #tech and #ecommerce have made it harder than ever for brands to defend their competitive moats, making it even more difficult to both acquire new and retain existing customers. If you manage a customer #loyalty program that's not meeting your goals, consider whether the experience you've created is meant to serve you or serve your customers. With so many off-the-shelf options for "doing loyalty" available, it's tempting to hold your nose and pick the one that feels best. But, selection is not design. #Design is where you differentiate. It's where you build moats. It's where you innovate when everyone else is standing still, watching the bottom line.
