🎆 Stay Safe This Independence Day! 🎆 As we gear up for 4th of July celebrations, it's important to remember that fireworks can be dangerous if not handled properly. Here are some tips to ensure a fun and safe holiday for everyone: • Follow the Law: Use fireworks that are legal in your area. • Adult Supervision: Always have an adult present when fireworks are being used. • Keep a Safe Distance: Stay at least 25 feet away from lit fireworks. • Use Outdoors Only: Never light fireworks indoors or near dry grass. • Keep Water Nearby: Have a bucket of water or a garden hose ready in case of fire. • Don’t Relight: If a firework doesn’t go off, wait 20 minutes and then soak it in water. • Protect Your Pets: Keep pets indoors to reduce stress from the loud noises. •Wear Eye Protection: Safety glasses can prevent injuries. Metropolitan areas around the Rockies are the exception to this as their last date of measurable snow has historically run into late April and even early May, in some cases. That being said, those are just averages. Measurable snowfall has occurred from the Midwest to the Northeast in late April and early May. In fact, Minneapolis's last date on record for measurable snow is May 24th, 1925. What a way to kick off the Memorial Day Weekend?! However, returning to school can be costly and cumbersome when you’re already employed full-time with limited time and resources set aside to go back to school. Project Kitty Hawk, a non-profit dedicated to helping UNC universities develop online programs, prepares you for in-demand roles in transportation, logistics, product, and inventory and is aligned to the skills NC’s supply chain leaders need to succeed. In this presentation, App State and Project Kitty Hawk leaders will share the vision behind this program, including up-to-date education demand and labor market insights informing its design and what sets App State’s program apart. Ms. Fulton is a founding member of FEMA’s Supply Chain Analysis Network (SCAN) and a founding member of the Private Sector Emergency Management Association (PSEMA). Ms. Fulton has testified before the United States Senate Committee on the Budget on the costs of climate change on supply chains. A Little Logistics, A Lot of Good: Serving Humanity Through Logistics In today’s world of constant distraction and disruption, finding time to support humanitarian causes can feel overwhelming. The American Logistics Aid Network (ALAN) is working to change that. Executive Director Kathy Fulton will lead a discussion to show how even small efforts in transportation and logistics can create significant positive outcomes for disaster survivors. You’ll walk away with practical, straightforward ways to get involved; from how to protect your own organization to how to build dynamic partnerships with trusted relief organizations in your local community. Fireworks Safety 🎇: Always follow local laws and guidelines. Leave the fireworks to the professionals and enjoy public displays instead of handling fireworks at home. 2. Grill with Care 🍔: Keep grills away from structures and overhanging branches. Never leave a grill unattended, and make sure to keep children and pets at a safe distance. 3. Hydrate 💧: Stay hydrated, especially if you’re spending the day outside. Drink plenty of water and avoid excessive alcohol consumption. 4. Sun Protection 🧴🕶️: Use sunscreen with at least SPF 30, wear hats and sunglasses, and seek shade during the peak sun hours between 10 AM and 4 PM. 5. Water Safety 🌊: If you’re planning to swim, ensure everyone knows how to swim, supervise children at all times, and never swim alone. 6.
