Reflecting back on 2024... 2024 was a year of wading through the muddy swamp of AI hype, technology evolutions, research, legislation, implementation. This led me to train myself at the FARI institute, to support AI research applied on urban environments, to coordinate tech and use case trials on AI in the public sector based on exploratory journeys, to create a special Trend Radar on AI in the public sector, contribute to the European Commission AI board - Steering Group on General Purpose AI- as Member of the Belgian Delegation 2024 was a year of facilitation and purposefully creating an group of employees trained in design thinking to create this internal pool of facilitators (in Dutch : procesbegeleiders) and create public sector innovation initiatives at Becentral 2024 was a year where sustainability measures from missed COP on climate and biodiversity, to vulture capitalism after Trump election, showed the need to jump on the emerging initiatives of a shifting world and leave the manmade chaos and panic behind, in that year I continued (freelance) work on sustainable bike tourism, contributed to eco-gestures awareness in the Transforma coworking community, and continued initiatives related to sustainable digital transformation. 2024, a year where discovering the X curve model gave me some peace of mind in a crumbling existing world and a new one still to come. (https://lnkd.in/e7-nWZbS) My top reading list in 2024 included following books, in no particular order: - The Box, Marc levinson: a classic one showing interdependency of logistic chains worldwide and the power of standardisation and new business models thanks to the shipping container - The Human Condition from Hannah Arendt to understand the roots of the totalitarian uprise, and find ways to foster a more humane and just society.  - Expand stretching the future by design from Christian Bason the revised book on using design thinking principles in the public sector - Three Horizons: The Patterning of Hope from Bill Sharpe to understand the pathways of the future and act now - Ontdek de innovatieruimte, Ynnovate methodiek, a nice DIY book and method on innovating in the public sector Best wishes for the new year 2025, for sure one with hope and despair . Two days ago, it was an absolute honor and joy to be a speaker at the 2024 Fast Company Innovation Festival, convening thousands of makers and innovators from across the globe—exceptional leaders and doers shaping the future. The feature session I was part of was called: “Appreciative Inquiry (“the other AI”)”—and two other execs were part of it. Bob Stiller, the Founder and former CEO of Keurig Green Mountain, and Julie Reiter, the senior VP of OD and Sustainability of the Clarke Group. They both showed how Appreciative Inquiry propelled extraordinary levels of flourishing inside and outside the enterprise, providing living proof that this is the era when the business of building a better world is good busi­ness. Moreover, they showed that there is no reversing the fun­damental finding that providing mar­ket-driven solutions to the world’s most significant social, ecological, and hu­man challenges is a winning strategy but especially under one specific condition: that the whole system—from the shop floor to the C-suite, and from every business function to the inclusions of external stakeholders such as community leaders, supply chain partners, and customers—were all invited into the company’s so-called “inner circle of strategy” that is, into an ever-widening web of AI’s co-creation (moving beyond dialogue to bold design) in an AI Summit format with 100s of co-creators as an activation collaboratory and design studio for innovation initiatives. Bob Stiller—just releasing his new book called “Better & Better: Creating a Culture of Purpose, Excellence, and Transformative Human Engagement” shared the human magic of it all and the meteoric growth of the company, whereupon between 1999 and 2009, Green Mountain shares rose 7,895 percent and was the top-performing Nasdaq stock for the decade.
