🚨 Big changes are coming to property maintenance! 🚨 The latest Housing Ombudsman report highlights key updates in the sector, including a 41% increase in resolved cases and the upcoming Housing Community Summit focusing on landlord learning resources, including the critical Awaab's Law. 🏠 🔍 An independent review of Peabody identified 31 recommendations to improve repair and decant processes. Here are five key recommendations I found to be most relevant to elevate domestic repairs and maintenance: 1. Improve Surveying Competence: Accurate surveys are the foundation of quality repairs. Better training and procedures are on the horizon. 2. Post-Work Inspections: Repairs will be double-checked to ensure everything is in top shape before tenants move back in. 3. Assess Property Condition Early: Spotting issues at the start of the tenancy or before major work can prevent headaches later. 4. Share Survey Reports: Transparency with tenants is key—Peabody will share survey findings directly with residents. 5. Boost Communication: Structured conversations between surveyors and tenants will keep everyone on the same page. For contractors and tradespeople, these updates mean higher standards, better communication, and more job opportunities 🏡 📅 Get involved today to drive positive change in social housing. 📞 07984 308 592 | 📧 iaroslav@progroup-recruitment.co.uk ProGroup Recruitment Peabody #PropertyMaintenance #SocialHousing #Peabody #HousingOmbudsman #Repairs #Contractors #QualityControl

Tenders are now open for the Olive Street key worker housing project in Geraldton. Once complete, the accommodation will be made available to assist in attracting and retaining essential staff for local businesses or for key workers such as teachers, healthcare professionals and police. The project has been funded by the State Government and the City of Greater Geraldton and is a great example of the work we are doing to enable increased workforce housing investment in the region. I posted yesterday on how to get promoted to the Senior Civil Service. Today? 5 core skills to escape to a better paid job in business instead. After 4 whirlwind years in the UK Senior Civil Service, I was leading the Strategy Unit at the heart of the Scottish Government. And then, on the 7th anniversary of joining, I left. ▫ I’d joined to make a difference, but my role felt ever more consumed by politics. ▫ My take home pay, although decent by national standards, wasn’t enough to support my growing family. ▫ Progression to the next level needed above all a pair of safe political hands. And I wasn’t prepared to bend myself out of shape any longer to provide them. It wasn’t going to be easy. ◼ I didn’t know how to land a job outside an organisation that had slowly claimed me as one of its own. ◼ I didn’t seem qualified for outside vacancies at an equivalent salary – let alone the higher range I actually wanted. ◼ And there was no clear exit pathway, other than to some other Government body - my least favourite option. In the end, I didn’t apply for a vacancy at all. I did what I’ve done ever since then, and created a job for myself instead (more on that in another post). But although I fell out of love with working for the UK Civil Service, I owe it for 5 core skills that helped me move up and out – and can help you do the same. 1️⃣ Power and influence in complex organisations As a coach to top global business teams, I see the same repeating dynamics of power and influence play out in industries and organisations the world over. Navigating them like you do to deliver value at a senior level is a critical skill. 2️⃣ Multi-stakeholder change Do you know how to make things happen between government departments and external stakeholders? Then you also know how to make them happen between business units, suppliers, and other parts of any complex organisation system. 3️⃣ Senior relationship management You’re expert at presenting, advising, and debating options to Cabinet Secretary level. You deal in big budgets, under close scrutiny, and are focussed on best outcomes for customers. That experience travels, big time. 4️⃣ Adaptive Leadership and strategic thinking Grappling with complexity and strategic thinking are pretty much baked-in Civil Service skills. Yet such skills are hard won, and far from automatic in business. 5️⃣ Communication skills. This one cuts both ways. Yes, your communication skills are probably first class. And your writing is way too laboured. Cut the word count by 60%, and you’ll be a better communicator than many of your external peers. Learn how to lever these 5 core skills, and an external job, potentially at a very significant earnings uplift, can come easily within your reach. My main advice? Don’t underestimate your value – though much of it will come as easy as breathing. Next up: Adaptive Leadership in Government – that I now coach to global business leaders.

The Art of Streamlining: Crafting a Lean and Agile Civil Service https://ift.tt/jOYk2K6 Chanh Van Phong Bo Noi Vu Vu Dang Minh shares insights into the regime for officers subject to streamlining – Photo: VGP According to Mr. Vu Dang Minh, following the directions of General Secretary To Lam and the Central Committee, the Government’s Steering Committee has assigned the Ministry of Home Affairs to study and develop a strong and superior mechanism for the basis of arranging and streamlining the contingent of officials and civil servants. The Chief of Staff of the Ministry of Home Affairs assessed that this is a sensitive, complex, and socially impactful policy issue that needs to be addressed swiftly. Therefore, the Ministry of Home Affairs is currently drafting this decree. We are urgently conducting an impact assessment and thoroughly researching multiple dimensions to ensure the feasibility of the policy upon issuance. It is crucial to have a mechanism in place to accommodate officials and civil servants who wish to transition to other sectors and no longer work for the government. At the same time, we must retain talented individuals and ensure the foundation of building a civil service based on two key principles: retaining talented individuals in the civil service and attracting talented individuals from within the country and internationally into the civil service. The policy must be fundamentally sound and comprehensive, ensuring an accurate impact assessment to provide a political and legal basis for the arrangement. The representative from the Ministry of Home Affairs informed that the draft decree is being processed following the prescribed procedure, seeking the opinion of the Government’s Steering Committee, and then submitting it to the Central Steering Committee and the Politburo for approval. Afterward, it will be presented to the Government for consideration and approval through an expedited process, synchronizing it with the arrangement schemes. Currently, the Ministry of Home Affairs is working diligently, along with other ministries, to develop arrangement schemes, embracing the spirit of “running and queuing simultaneously.” Mr. Minh added that the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Labour, Invalids, and Social Affairs finalized the scheme yesterday. The next step is to seek the Government Steering Committee’s opinion and then proceed with the arrangement schemes, including asset and personnel statistics and the development of methods after obtaining approval from authorized agencies. The Chief of Staff of the Ministry of Home Affairs also emphasized the importance of ensuring a streamlined and high-quality contingent of officials and civil servants while maintaining a stable apparatus for development. It is essential to consider the legitimate aspirations of officials and civil servants. This involves prioritizing the arrangement and utilization of individuals with superior qualifications, experience,...

In Zimbabwe, most well-run local authorities should have a Housing Policy & Procedures Manual, outlining, inter-alia, how stands and houses (for purchase, accommodation, etc) are to be allocated (for instance, through a waiting list, local authority pay-scheme, gazetting after passing a resolution ratified by a quorum of the local authority's chief staffers, etc). Such housing policy and procedure manuals are invaluable in keeping one free, safe and clear of the dreaded "land-barons" who have no scruples and will dupe without flinching. Here is City of Harare's 2016 Housing Policy and Procedures Manual. Source: City of Harare https://lnkd.in/dicM-C2J
