After a very frustrating Q3 I sat during the Festive holidays reflecting on where we went wrong and what I could’ve done better. Did I chase the wrong clients? Did I price that job correctly? Why did I agree to discount that job? Perhaps I should’ve switched off from the business after all I don’t have much down time. However I’m buzzing to say I took these harsh lessons turning them into a positive and resulting in an amazing Q4. With our new financial year fast approaching we have a solid pipeline from our existing clients, new clients to develop and more importantly the knowledge and experience not to get caught out again. On Friday we celebrated our Old Mill annual Christmas Party at the Webbington Hotel & Spa 🎄   Off the back of this and as the year draws to a close, it made me think about what my role has taught me this year:   💭 Every client is different – whilst the rules and regulations may be the same, the factors that determine that situation differ from client to client. 💭 Not every prospect has to be won – every prospect has different needs, and remember to value your work and more importantly your price. If it is meant to be, it will be. 💭 Embrace the silence – I used to feel like in meetings I had to fill silences and that they were really bad, silences can be good, they help process the information we deliver. 💭 Forget your mistakes, but remember the lesson it taught you – no matter how many years we've been in the industry, every day is a school day, if something doesn't go well, put it out of your mind, but never forget what it taught you. 💭 Delegate and use your resources – you can't do it all at once! I'm lucky to be a part of a great team, we're a team for a reason and sharing the load helps develop others, whilst keeping a good balance on workloads. 💭 Always take time to reflect – What went well? What didn't work? Like the point above, knowledge is best grown on reflection and there will be far more opportunities to go again.   Personally, I have also qualified as a Chartered Accountant and bought my first home this year, so a year full of wins. I hope 2024 has been a fruitful year for you all too.   Happy Christmas and a restful New Year to my colleagues and clients, and here's to 2025! ❄️ #smallbusiness #accountant

“Finish the year strong, so you can start next year fresh.” We are coming into a busy couple of weeks. 😮💨 The first half of December is always a bit bonkers as we catch up with clients and hold end-of-year reviews. It’s been another tough year for many and there is a lot to reflect upon. This is why I always stress to my clients the power and importance of a December strategy session. I ask them to look upon it as one of the most important and non-negotiable sessions in their diary. 📆 It’s so important to carve out this time early doors in December before the quality streets get cracked open, the Christmas parties get into full swing, and before you find yourself suddenly skidding into family time exhausted, fuzzy-headed, and without a clear plan laid out for your return. 🫣 I can tell you now, that there is a huge professional comfort in tying off the year strong with a strategic business review. They can be a game-changer for aligning teams, reflecting on progress, and setting up for success in the New Year. 💪🏻 As SME businesses (including my own) face a plethora of what feel like, continual challenges, it is crucial to recalibrate and build a robust plan so you can relax over the festive season and be ready to go again in January 2025.

We extend warm festive season wishes to our BLP Partners, our Network of business advisors and all the small and medium-sized businesses we've collaborated with during 2024. At this time of the year, we look back at the impact we had in 2024 thanks to the many committed partnerships that supported our work: 👇 BLP recently surveyed 500 businesses in eight Pacific Island nations to understand how they use BLP Business Advisory and Financial Services and how this impacts their behaviour and performance. The survey also compared two groups of 100 businesses each – one group that received support from BLP and another that didn’t. Results show that SMEs supported by BLP Partners and the BLP Network performed significantly better than those who were not. Here are some survey highlights: 👇 👉 83% of businesses supported by BLP said they had improved over the past 12 months, and 94% expected improvements to last. In contrast, 65% of those not supported by BLP said their business had improved over the past 12 months, and 87% expected improvements to last. 👉 47% of BLP-supported businesses feel that they have fully recovered from the economic impact of COVID-19, while 30% of those not supported by BLP feel the same. 👉 73% of BLP-supported businesses think their business is more resilient than a year ago, compared to 59% for those not supported by BLP.
