Banking services for women transformed throughout the 1900s. Learn more about the history of women in banking and the key individuals at the forefront of this cultural moment.
Awww, the journey from learning basic finance in school to navigating the complexities of banking and risk has always been shaped by inspiring leaders—and today, it’s women who are truly making magic (my dear friend Jill Nykoliation favorite word!).
These “number leaders” are more than just decision-makers; they’re change-makers, intentionally creating opportunities that ripple through local neighborhoods, schools, and beyond.
For those of us who grew up in awe at what felt like the mystical power of education and connection, it’s so natural to celebrate how women are connecting the dots and transforming institutions into financial hubs of innovation.
Female intuition has made feminism empowering in ways that resonate far beyond the workplace. They’re not just managing money; they’re investing in people, ideas, and futures.
And if you’re reading this and thinking, What magic is she talking about?
Please follow Kelly Elkin, Leann (Stessman) Nelson, Tawanna Black, Rocio Velarde, Annamaria Lusardi, Allison Netzer, Amanda Emery-Morris, Karmi Anna Mattson, Renee Herzing, Jennifer Faust, Julie Cook, and Amy Parsons. They know their worth and are passing it on through action.
This celebration is a beautiful reminder that leadership, especially in fields like banking, isn’t about fitting into old molds—it’s about breaking them. The women leading today are doing just that, redefining what it means to grow and support our communities. And perhaps most importantly, they remind us to focus on what truly matters: people.
How are you investing in the magic of connection in your community?

4 out of 50 said yes!!
I was speaking at an event for women, talking about my journey with Self-belief around money.
My mission is to get people talking about money openly without any negative feelings of resentment, shame or even guilt.
I asked the question 'Who here is willing to tell me how much they have in their bank account?'
Only 4 out of 50 said yes... why is that? What are you making it mean?
The balance in a bank account is just a number and today my number is £345.95.
What's yours?

American Banker's Most Powerful Women in Banking #MPWIB Conference is around the corner, and Mitek Systems is proud sponsor! Join me and Mitek Chief Marketing Officer Cindy White at this exciting and celebratory event.
The MPWIB Conference is personal for me, as I have made my career in the banking industry. Today I am helping fight #checkfraud in my role as head of Mitek Systems' #digitalbanking strategy. I came to this innovative tech company after a big career at Bank of America, where I started as a teller and rose to become an executive.
I am gratified that to honor the accomplishments of so many women at banking's most senior levels. According to Statista, in 2023, the share of female employees in senior levels at the largest U.S. banks ranged from 26–42%. Wells Fargo had the highest share of female executives and seniors at 41.9%, followed by Citi at 41.74% and Bank of America at 39%. All of these institutions and many others are represented in AmerBanker's list of Most Powerful #WomenInBanking.
Come connect with Cindy and me, industry leaders and honorees from American Banker’s iconic rankings, inspiring future leaders in this dynamic and interactive environment. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/ejD72JCw

While #SriLanka leads its South Asian peers in recruiting more women in the banking industry, barriers do remain for career progression. #IFC’s latest report, based on the findings across seven leading private commercial banks in the country, found that women’s representation at the banking industry drops from 40% at entry-level to 27% in middle management and further to 20% in senior management roles. So clearly, while the industry is close to achieving parity in hiring women, there’s much more to do going forward.
And here’s an interview featuring IFC’s Aarthy Arunasalam-Arun delving more into the findings, and importantly, on what the industry needs to do to unlock opportunities for women, which will be a crucial step for resilient economic growth and recovery.
