[Cities4cohousing] Community Land Trust Brussels was on a mission in Thessaloniki. On Tuesday and Wednesday, we met Mayor Stelios Angeloudis and the Municipal team, as part of the URBACT Cities4cohousing project. Together with our colleagues from Bruxelles Logement - Brussel Huisvesting, we were invited to come and talk about our Calico project. There is hardly any social housing in Greece and social housing policy is in its infancy. As elsewhere in Europe, housing prices have risen strongly here too. This is why the pioneering work of the city of Thessaloniki is so important. Through a pilot project in which vacant public buildings will be taken refurbished and managed by a Social Rental Agency, the first 30 social housing units in the city will be produced. Thessaloniki is interested in the way we take real estate out of the market and in the place community building takes in our model.
