It’s about recognizing how palliative care can support us when we need it most, enhancing our quality of life and providing comfort during challenging times. 🚨 Why Palliative Care Week? Despite the crucial role it plays, there are still many misunderstandings about palliative care. These misconceptions can prevent individuals from seeking the support they need, potentially missing out on the opportunity for improved well-being and quality of life. The 2025 Palliative Care Queensland Priorities report highlights four key priority areas for next year. Priority 1 is to boost funding and support for hospice and community palliative care services. Community palliative care and Hospice services play a crucial role in delivering patient-centered and accessible care, enabling individuals to stay in their homes and communities during end-of-life care. Despite growing expectations for care to be provided at home or in the community, there is a lack of sustainable support or a clear strategy, including a specific strategy for younger people. To meet these demands, a proactive strategy, increased and equitable statewide funding and greater community awareness of hospice and community palliative care services is urgently needed. This type of care is focused on providing relief from the symptoms and stress of the illness.
