🎓🌱🔌 Exploring the use of Electric Vehicle Charging in Schools🔌🌱🎓 Last month, new measures to support electric vehicle drivers were announced, including more grants for schools. These new grants are for state-funded education institutes with dedicated off-street parking and applications can be made online. Installing EV charging points typically costs around £1,500 to £2,500 (excluding groundworks) but with the new Workplace Charging Scheme, schools can get up to 75% off the cost to buy and install charge stations. Before implementing an EV charging programme, there are some important things to consider to ensure it’s the right solution for your school. Below we have provided some advice and guidance to schools considering electric vehicle charging in their car parks, offering insights into how you can contribute to a greener future while addressing the logistics of adopting this type of sustainable and forward-thinking infrastructure. Do you drive an electric vehicle? How about the possibility of doing the school run and grabbing a quick charge there before heading to your next destination? If you work in a college, how does the ease of being able to charge your EV during the day sound? Or, if you’re thinking about ways to generate extra revenue for your school, how about using income from EV charge points to do it? With more electric vehicles on the roads, we all know there’s a need for more infrastructure to charge them, and there’s an exciting opportunity to make that happen in schools, colleges and other education settings across the UK. The recently announced EV charging grant for schools can be used to install as many as 40 EV charge points across all sites, to boost charge point facilities for staff, visitors, and the public. The grant covers up to 75% of the cost of the purchase and install, up to £2,500 per socket, and we’ve brought together more information here… https://lnkd.in/efdZwWgr Our Joju Charging team works with educational settings to design and install EV Charging infrastructure, and we’re happy to answer any questions or help with the application process too. #wednesdaywisdom #education #grantforschools #evcharging #evcharginginfrastructure #jojucharging

California, New York and Illinois are the top three states for total electric school buses, according to new report released today by U.S. PIRG Education Fund and Environment America Research & Policy Center. The three states also lead the nation in combined federal and state investments into electric bus fleets. According to the World Resources Institute, the United States now has 12,000 electric school buses, either in operation or coming soon, in more than 1,500 school districts. Beyond California, New York and Illinois, other top states include Florida, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Massachusetts, Texas, Virginia and Georgia. A recently published study in the JAMA, school districts replacing the oldest buses had greater improvements in educational standardized test scores than districts not awarded funding. The EPA’s School Bus Rebate Program, which began in 2012, provides funding to replace older diesel-powered school buses with new diesel, alternate fuel, hybrid, or electric school buses. The contention of the study was that students riding older school buses are often exposed to high levels of diesel exhaust as a result of emissions infiltrating the bus through leaky cabins or entering the bus directly through open windows or doors. In a story for TechBrew, reporter Jordyn Grzelewski examines how transitioning to electric school buses benefits communities – and highlights Zūm’s announcement that, in Oakland, Zum’s vehicle-to-grid technology will send energy back to the grid. An excerpt: “At least one school district is ahead of the curve: California’s Oakland Unified School District is slated to become the first major US school district to have a 100% electric school bus fleet. … And that’s not all: The fleet will be equipped with vehicle-to-grid (V2G) technology, enabling it to send energy back to the power grid to the tune of 2.1 gigawatt hours annually, according to the announcement. Zum will provide the district with 74 electric buses as well as the bidirectional chargers that enable V2G capabilities.” Read the full story here: https://lnkd.in/g2WDanfV #transportation #studenttransportation #EVs #V2G #sustainability

https://lnkd.in/eczjaR5a 300 GWh of Energy just from school buses (10 000) Zum has set a goal of electrifying 10,000 bidirectional school buses, which will create the potential to supply 300 gigawatt-hours of energy to the power grids annually. In addition, Zum is electrifying school buses in its fleet in districts across the country, with San Francisco Unified and Los Angeles Unified — which are three and six times the size of Zum’s Oakland school bus fleet, respectively — to soon follow.
