Over that past decade or more, organizations all over the world have been investing huge amount of efforts and resources to build on-prem IT infrastructure based on VMware technologies, one day they woke up and found out that the technology has been sold and the acquirers are changing the licensing and pricing structure. I believe that the IT ecosystem is getting to a pivot point, or even a point of no return, today that the cloud is basically available everywhere, and is already part of the worlds critical infrastructure, customers with on-prem infrastructure are going to rethink their on-prem investment/retention strategy and will accelerate the transition to the cloud. Lastly personally, I believe Amazon Web Services (AWS) doesn't have any aspiration to be acquired, and unlikely going to change their price philosophy, actually AWS has proven their continued commitment to reduce their products price, so this seems to me the right time for customers to make their way from VMware to AWS.
